Stephanie Vaquer Hopes Her WWE Success Opens Doors For Chilean Wrestlers

Reigning WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer is using her growing platform to shine a spotlight on the wrestling scene in Chile, expressing her strong desire to see more of her compatriots follow her path to global promotions.

Alongside fellow star La Catalina, Vaquer has spearheaded an unprecedented wave of visibility for Chilean talent across major stages like WWE and AAA. However, the champion made it clear that being a pioneer is only the first step.

“I’m La Primera, But I Don’t Want To Be The Only One”

Appearing on Lajunta+, Vaquer reflected on the recent WWE tryouts that featured several Chilean prospects, hoping their involvement marks the start of a permanent pipeline:

“I always say, ‘I’m La Primera, but I don’t want to be the only one.’ I am very proud because there are many Chileans who were in the tryout, wishing them the best of the successes, but I always want more Chileans in WWE.”

For Vaquer, the narrative surrounding South American professional wrestling is rapidly changing as global scouts take notice:

“Barriers have been broken, doors are being opened and the idea is there should be more attention paid in Chile because there is a lot of wrestling talent coming through.”

Highlighting Chile’s Global Representatives

Vaquer took time to point out several standout performers from her home country who are making waves internationally, including her friend Roma, who participated in the recent WWE tryout process:

“I don’t know if I’m the right one to say ‘este cabrón es bueno’ [chuckles], but I’m proud of, for example, Roma. She is my friend, she was in the Tryout, I wish her the best always.”

She also noted the international footprint established by Akari in Japan, as well as veteran wrestler Taylor Wolf:

“There are so many Chilean female representatives in the world. Akari is in Japan doing an incredible job. Maybe now, being in WWE, I have more spotlight, but there really is a lot of Chilean talent in the world… I can name you Taylor Wolf, he’s been wrestling here for many years and now he is becoming more professional, he can already be a teacher.”

With her own career reaching historic peaks, Vaquer remains convinced that Chile’s talent pool is only beginning to scratch the surface of its potential:

“There are many names and a lot of talent in Chile that needs to develop a little more, but now people are already starting to see it.”
