Rey Mysterio Addresses Retirement Timeline, Reflects On Dual Roles In WWE And AAA

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently shared his thoughts on his career longevity, addressing retirement timeline while balancing his in-ring schedule with his authority role as AAA General Manager.

Speaking with BANG Showbiz ahead of his marquee match at AAA Triplemanía 34 Night 1 in Las Vegas, the 51-year-old icon explained that he is taking a wait-and-see approach rather than setting a firm date to step away from competition.

“I’m Just Going To Wing It”: Mysterio On Balancing In-Ring And GM Duties

Mysterio currently splits his time between performing on WWE Monday Night Raw and managing day-to-day authority dynamics for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Reflecting on his present workload, Mysterio revealed that his lighter schedule has made his ongoing run far more enjoyable than his earlier years on the road:

“I think I’m loving the process right now of enjoying the moments as they come. Before it was maybe a little bit more stressful because you were working constantly, four or five days a week. But now it’s been like — with the GM role in AAA, and then wrestling on RAW, I kind of vibe that program, I don’t mind it at all.”

Mysterio added that working both sides of the curtain has allowed him to continue developing as a performer and authority figure:

“I enjoy it because I’m still on both sides of the spectrum and I’m learning as I’m growing still. So it’s really fun. I think I’m just going to wing it and see where this road takes me because I’m really enjoying the moments right now that I’m living inside the ring, whether as a wrestler or as a GM.”

High-Stakes Defeat At Triplemanía 34

Mysterio’s latest in-ring appearance came on September 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for Triplemanía 34 Night 1.

Competing in the high-stakes main event against Omos, Mysterio was defeated following outside interference from Dominik Mysterio and Dorian Roldan. The loss officially lifted Omos’ AAA suspension. Following the bout, Omos launched a brutal post-match assault, hoisting Mysterio on a medical stretcher board and slamming him through the main broadcast table to close the event.
