Kevin Owens, CM Punk, Gunther & Finn Balor Segment

Kevin Owens made his way to the ring to a loud reaction from the Ottawa crowd, just a short drive from his hometown of Marieville. Before he could speak, the fans broke into an “Ole Ole Ole” chant. Owens said this wasn’t how he hoped to return to Ottawa. In twelve years, he’s lost plenty of WWE Championship matches, but none stung like last week’s loss to CM Punk in Toronto. Owens explained that he pushed himself to get cleared in nine days just so he could make SummerSlam, not only to win the title in front of Canadian fans, but because he wanted his parents to see him finally win the big one.

Owens talked about how his mother fought for her life two years ago and how travel has been nearly impossible since. She still made the trip to Toronto to watch him become champion, but Sami Zayn ruined that moment. Owens admitted he’s done terrible things to Zayn over the years, but said what Zayn did last week was unforgivable because it shattered a perfect scenario. Owens promised he would deal with Zayn soon, but he also made it clear that Punk wasn’t finished with him.

CM Punk walked to the ring and took a shot at Ottawa, threatening to send Owens packing like Brady Tkachuk leaving the Senators. Before things escalated, Gunther arrived and said he finally understood why Owens and Punk despise each other — because they see their own arrogant, obnoxious traits reflected back at them. Gunther said he was glad Owens’ mother kicked out, but unfortunate that Owens didn’t. Finn Balor then joined the confrontation.

Balor said everyone was tired of Gunther’s behavior and pointed out that neither Owens nor Punk had beaten him. Nick Aldis stepped in and made the main event official: Gunther vs. Owens vs. Balor, with the winner becoming the No. 1 contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Chelsea Green & Tiffany Stratton Backstage

Backstage after the break, Chelsea Green was shown wearing a protective mask, still clearly banged up from recent attacks. Tiffany Stratton approached her with concern, asking if she really planned on going out there in her condition. Green insisted she had been cleared and said she wasn’t about to leave Stratton alone — she’d be right beside her when they faced Nia Jax and Lash Legend.

Chelsea Green & Tiffany Stratton vs. The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend)

Tiffany Stratton tried to blitz Lash Legend at the bell, but Lash caught her in a reverse bearhug and forced her into a bad spot right away. Stratton slipped free and fired back, but a backbreaker shut her momentum down. Lash tried to choke her on the mat, only for Stratton to snap back with a handspring stunner. The impact sent Lash stumbling straight into a neckbreaker from Chelsea Green. Nia Jax entered next and ate a double dropkick from Stratton and Green, followed by double knees to the back of her neck. Jax tried a Samoan Drop, but Stratton and Green countered. Green went for the Un‑Pretty‑Her, but Jax blasted her with a headbutt to the face as the show went to commercial.

Returning from break, Lash slammed Stratton after capitalizing on Stratton’s hesitation to tag Green. Lash covered, but Green broke it up. Jax stepped in and drove Green’s face into her knees, targeting the already‑injured orbital bone. Green rolled out and was checked by medical staff while Lash locked Stratton in a deep bearhug. Stratton fought out, only to run into a heavy right hand from Lash for a close call.

Jax tagged in and missed a running splash. Stratton tried to rally, but Jax cut her down with a clothesline. The Irresistible Forces kept Stratton isolated until Stratton avoided Jax’s leg drop. She slipped out of Lash’s grip and used Jax as a springboard to hit a reverse Shiranui on Lash. With space finally created, Stratton crawled for a tag — but Green was still being escorted away. Green suddenly sprinted back to the ring, tagged in, and hit a missile dropkick on Jax. Lash was knocked to the floor, and Green hit another dropkick on Jax before climbing the ropes for a big crossbody to the outside.

At ringside, Lash caught a leaping Stratton and threw her into the barricade. Inside the ring, Jax punched Green square in the face and followed with a Samoan Drop. She then hit the Annihilator to seal the match.

Winners: The Irresistible Forces

Nick Aldis, Danhausen & Gunther Backstage

Inside Nick Aldis’ office, Danhausen wandered in and immediately tried to strike up a friendly conversation with the General Manager. Before Aldis could get a word in, Gunther entered — or as Danhausen enthusiastically called him, “Gooner.” Gunther complained that he was being forced to jump through hoops just to get a title opportunity. Aldis assured him that nothing else would change regarding tonight’s triple threat match.

As Gunther left, Danhausen asked Aldis if Gunther literally meant “the ghost of Finn Balor.” Aldis, trying not to laugh, told him it was just a figure of speech.

WWE Women’s U.S. Championship: Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Paige

Jacy Jayne opened the match by huddling with Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley, looking for a game plan. Paige didn’t wait for any of it — she charged straight at Jayne, only to get yanked down by the hair. Jayne missed her senton, giving Paige room to unload with repeated kicks to the ribs. Jayne rolled to the floor, but Paige followed with a cannonball that wiped her out. Back in the ring, Jayne distracted the referee long enough for Lainey Reid to sneak in a kick to Paige’s face as the show went to commercial.

Coming out of the break, Paige fought out of Jayne’s hold and hit a running neckbreaker. Both women got to their feet and traded shots until Jayne landed a step‑up enzuigiri. Jayne took too long celebrating, letting Paige fire back with a fisherman’s suplex and then a German suplex. Paige connected with the Paige‑Turner and came within a heartbeat of winning. Jayne answered with a kick, but Paige reversed the follow‑up into a P.T.O. attempt that didn’t fully lock in. Paige cracked her with a headbutt and lined up Ram‑Paige, but Henley and Reid jumped in. Paige kicked them aside, only for Jayne to catch her in a slow roll‑up to retain the title.

After the match, Nikki Bella hit the ring and blindsided Paige, finishing her off with the Rack Attack 2.0.

Cody Rhodes, Finn Balor & Trick Williams Backstage

A recap aired of last week’s tense confrontation between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. After that, Cody was shown meeting with Finn Balor. Rhodes admitted that the “no title if they fight” stipulation has been weighing heavily on him, and the situation with Orton has pushed him into a place he doesn’t want to be. Balor told him not to let this drag him down a path he can’t return from. He added that once Rhodes finishes things with Orton, he expects to be the new WWE Champion himself after winning tonight’s contender’s match.

Elsewhere backstage, Trick Williams was searching for Li’l Yachty. He asked if Yachty was truly ready to step in the ring with Baron Corbin. Yachty said he was tired of being disrespected and promised he’d survive the five‑minute challenge at Sunday Night’s Main Event, giving Trick the opening to face Corbin for the title. As Yachty walked off, Corbin confronted Trick and told him he didn’t need to be entertaining — he was the United States Champion, and that was enough.

Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton In‑Ring Confrontation

Cody Rhodes made his way to the ring to talk about his upcoming match with Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event. The Ottawa crowd welcomed him warmly, and before he even started, they hit him with the familiar “Ole Ole Ole” chant. Cody opened with his usual line, asking Ottawa what they wanted to talk about, then said it was time to address Randy Orton. He admitted that part of him wanted to beat Orton senseless right there, but he wasn’t sure that would accomplish the “kill the Legend Killer” mission he’s been talking about.

Rhodes shifted to the number fifteen — the number of world titles Orton would have if he won at SummerSlam. Cody said that every time Orton climbed high, he’d find a way to screw it up. He recalled being there firsthand for many of those moments, watching Orton get a slap on the wrist while others were fired for far less. Cody said Orton screwed up again by inserting himself between Rhodes and the most important championship of his career. So on Sunday, it wouldn’t be Randy beating Randy — it would be Cody beating him.

Randy Orton then walked out and stepped into the ring. Orton said that if Cody wanted to talk accountability, he needed to be honest. Orton admitted he had none in the past, and Cody was right there enabling him. He said he needed someone to drive him around — his “bitch” — and Cody raised his hand willingly. Orton tried to provoke Cody into throwing a punch.

Orton reminded Rhodes of his 100‑day vacation after WrestleMania, when he punted Cody so hard it disfigured him. He said he returned at SummerSlam for one reason: to make sure Cody didn’t beat CM Punk. He kept trying to bait Cody into hitting him, then took a cruel shot at Cody’s dog Pharaoh, asking if the dog had died. Orton escalated further, saying he’d punt Cody again in front of his family and friends, and asked if Cody’s “trailer park trash mother” would sit front row to watch him get beaten — or his “trashy wife.”

Cody said he knew exactly what Orton was doing — trying to get out of Sunday Night’s Main Event. He said he was counting the days until Atlanta, where everyone would find out whether Orton was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime superstar like Dusty Rhodes, or a screwup like Cowboy Bob Orton. Cody told Randy he’d see him in Atlanta, and Orton snapped, furious that Cody went after his father.

Tatum Paxley, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss Backstage

Tatum Paxley was interviewed backstage ahead of her match with Michin. She leaned in and whispered something to Jackie Redmond, whatever it was sending Jackie walking off in a hurry. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss approached next, letting Tatum know that the three of them would be teaming at Sunday Night’s Main Event against Jade Cargill and the Baddies. Paxley didn’t say much, but the message was clear — she’d be ready.

Rey Fenix & Ricky Saints Backstage

Rey Fenix was interviewed about his upcoming match against his brother Penta, with the winner earning a shot at Roman Reigns in Mexico City. Before he could get far, Ricky Saints barged in and said they should skip ahead to the part where Fenix returns to SmackDown and faces him for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. Fenix fired back, promising he’d return to SmackDown as a World Champion instead — and that Saints would be the first person he shuts up.

Tatum Paxley (w/ Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss) vs. Michin (w/ Jade Cargill & B‑Fab)

Michin opened the match by pie‑facing Tatum Paxley and trying to drag her into a waistlock. Paxley slipped free and backflipped out of danger, then avoided Michin’s kick and leapt over her. Michin regrouped between the ropes and sent Paxley to the floor, following with a sharp apron kick to the face. Paxley recovered quickly and answered with a moonsault off the apron onto Michin as the show headed to commercial.

After the break, both women were trading shots in the ring. Michin knocked Paxley down with a stiff elbow and stretched her out in a surfboard hold. Paxley rolled it into a pin attempt, forcing Michin to break. Michin missed a cannonball in the corner, and Paxley tried a roll‑through pin for two. Paxley found her rhythm with a superkick, then a step‑up enzuigiri that left Michin rocked, followed by a boot from the apron.

Michin fired back with a sit‑down powerbomb and set up for the Styles Clash, but Paxley flipped out of it with a backdrop and hit a rolling kick. One Cemetery Drive later, and Paxley sealed the win.

Blake Monroe Interview / Giulia Attack

A recap aired of Blake Monroe blindsiding Giulia during her entrance last week, stopping their scheduled match before it even began. After the footage, Monroe was interviewed about why she’d “jeopardize” her own debut. She said the match was beneath her and she’d only compete when given an opponent worthy of her standards. Giulia didn’t wait for more — she ambushed Monroe mid‑interview, throwing punches before launching her into the barricade.

Kevin Owens & Randy Orton Backstage

Kevin Owens was shown getting ready for the main event when Randy Orton approached him. Orton told Owens he was right about Cody Rhodes. Owens seemed pleased to hear it, until Orton reminded him that Owens once dropped him on his head with a package piledriver. Owens backed off, saying he’d get back to Orton about that.

The M.F.T.s & Damian Priest Promo / War Raiders Confrontation

The M.F.T.s cut a promo taking shots at Shinsuke Nakamura and his new partner Kyoki, promising to destroy them. Elsewhere, Damian Priest said he and R‑Truth had the best summer ever, but maybe it was time to get serious again in singles competition. The War Raiders confronted them, leading to an AAA Tag Team Championship match being set for Mexico City — something Priest didn’t seem thrilled about.

Nia Jax Demands Title Shot / Miz & Kit Wilson Visit Nick Aldis

Inside Nick Aldis’ office, Nia Jax demanded a WWE Women’s Championship match within two weeks or she’d take the title by force. After Jax and Lash Legend left, The Miz and Kit Wilson entered, saying Aldis owed them. Aldis responded by booking them against Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki — now officially known as Bakusai.

Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor vs. GUNTHER – Number One Contender’s Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship

The bell rang and Finn Balor barely finished posing on the ropes before GUNTHER cracked him with a right hand. Owens charged in, but GUNTHER cut him down with a big boot. Balor fired back by driving his shoulder through the ropes into GUNTHER’s midsection. Owens then wiped out Balor with a superkick and hit a running senton on GUNTHER. He followed with a Swanton Bomb off the top and went for the cover, but Balor dove in to break it. Balor blasted Owens with a shotgun dropkick, only for GUNTHER to chop him down. Balor tried a quick roll‑up, but GUNTHER kicked out and answered with another chop that echoed through the arena.

After the break, GUNTHER caught Balor with a kick to the face. Owens responded with a superkick to GUNTHER and another to Balor, but Balor stunned him with a Pele Kick and climbed up top. He aimed for Coup de Grace on GUNTHER, but GUNTHER moved. Owens crashed into GUNTHER with a cannonball in the corner. Balor intercepted Owens with a Sling Blade and climbed again. Owens met him with a right hand and joined him on the ropes, but GUNTHER yanked Owens down and leveled him with a clothesline.

GUNTHER knocked Balor off the ropes and locked a sleeper on Owens. Balor broke it with a Coup de Grace to both men, then hit GUNTHER with his running elbow drop and a shotgun dropkick that sent him crashing into the corner. Balor went back up and hit Coup de Grace on GUNTHER, covering him — but Sami Zayn pulled Balor out of the ring and threw him over the announce desk.

Owens hit GUNTHER with a Stunner inside the ring and covered him as a second referee sprinted out. Zayn cut him off, leveling the second referee at the bottom of the ramp.

CM Punk’s music hit. Punk ran down, smashed Zayn into the barricade, and yelled that this was “justice.” He kept beating Zayn and raised the Undisputed WWE Championship to strike him again. Zayn slid into the ring, Punk followed — but Owens met Punk with punches. Zayn then blasted both Owens and Punk with the championship belt. GUNTHER tried to choke Zayn from behind, but Zayn cracked him with the belt too. He then hit Punk again and stood tall over all four men, holding the Undisputed WWE Championship high as both referees lay down on the outside.
