Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio Tease AAA Alliance

Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio Tease AAA Alliance

The August 3 episode of WWE RAW closed with a brief but intriguing moment between Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio, hinting at a possible partnership that could impact WWE’s growing battle with AEW.

The show ended after Jacob Fatu dismantled Royce Keys in a street fight. Reigns appeared at ringside to approve the destruction before heading back through the curtain. As he stepped into the gorilla position, Rey Mysterio was waiting. The two shook hands, and Mysterio reminded Reigns that he is the General Manager of AAA.

“Let me run something by you,” Mysterio told Reigns. The two then walked off together, leaving the broadcast with a quiet cliffhanger.

WWE Escalates Its Head‑to‑Head Strategy Against AEW

The tease comes at a time when WWE is aggressively positioning its programming against AEW’s biggest shows. In recent months, WWE has aligned both NXT and AAA to run directly opposite AEW’s major events.

On August 30, AAA will run a show head‑to‑head with AEW All In. Immediately after AAA’s broadcast ends, NXT Heatwave will air, creating a full block of WWE‑aligned programming against AEW’s largest annual event.

The strategy continues into September. WWE recently announced that Worlds Collide — a joint WWE/AAA event — will take place on the same day as AEW All Out and in the same region. Both promotions will be in the Chicago area on September 26. AEW will run the Allstate Arena, while WWE and AAA will run the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. CM Punk has already teased appearing at Worlds Collide.

Between those shows sits AAA’s biggest annual event, Triplemania. Night one will take place on September 11 in Las Vegas, followed by night two on September 13 in Mexico City. WWE’s involvement with AAA programming continues to grow, and the Reigns–Mysterio tease suggests the partnership may expand even further.

With WWE stacking the calendar against AEW and teasing new alliances on RAW, the competitive landscape between the two companies is heating up heading into the fall.
