Chelsea Green’s fractured orbital bone has sparked internal concern within WWE, with attention now turning toward the move that caused the injury. The Interim WWE Women’s Champion was hurt during last Friday’s edition of SmackDown while teaming with Tiffany Stratton in a Women’s Tag Team Championship match against Fatal Influence.
The match ended with Fallon Henley pinning Green, but the finish has become the focal point backstage. Green was injured during Fatal Influence’s Rolling Encore — a tandem maneuver where Lainey Reid lands onto the opponent. On this occasion, Reid came down on Green’s head, resulting in the fracture.
Bryan Alvarez discussed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that the injury occurred even though the move appeared clean on television.
“They hit Chelsea with their finish. It looked on TV like everything was fine, but in fact everything was not fine. Lainey fell on Chelsea’s head in doing the move, and Chelsea broke her orbital bone.”
Alvarez added that WWE has not yet determined how long Green will be out, and her status as interim champion could complicate the situation if she requires extended recovery time.
“We don’t know how long she’s going to be out. Maybe she can wear that thing on her face. Maybe she’ll have to vacate. I don’t know what’s going on, but she is hurt.”
Finisher Under Scrutiny After Injury
Beyond Green’s condition, Alvarez noted that the Rolling Encore itself has drawn criticism from people within the wrestling industry.
“I have heard people saying within wrestling that this is not a good finish anyway, so we’ll see if they end up getting a new finish.”
He emphasized that the injury occurred despite the move looking smooth on camera — a reminder that even well‑executed maneuvers can go wrong.
Green has already confirmed the fractured orbital bone via Instagram, showing visible bruising around her eye. With Rhea Ripley also out of action, WWE now faces a second championship complication in the women’s division.
The company has yet to address whether the Rolling Encore will be reevaluated or altered moving forward.
