Chelsea Green Reflects On Pivotal Nick Aldis Promo Following Orbital Bone Injury

Chelsea Green has opened up about her emotional promo segment with WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, revealing how a real-life orbital bone injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her title reign.

Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship in a ladder match at WWE SummerSlam after Rhea Ripley was sidelined. However, just days later on the August 7 episode of WWE SmackDown, she suffered a broken orbital bone. Faced with the prospect of relinquishing her title a week later, Green delivered an impassioned, viral promo alongside Aldis that ultimately bought her 30 days to get medically cleared and defend the championship.

“The Best Thing That Could’ve Ever Happened To Me”

Reflecting on the critical moment during an appearance on NotSam Wrestling with Sam Roberts, Green admitted that her post-SummerSlam momentum was initially faltering before the injury allowed her to reset her character arc:

“It was definitely bigger than whatever was to come. I think we all felt where it was going that week after SummerSlam where I had a very lame promo and it kind of led into a couple of lame moments. Then, that broken orbital bone was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me because of that promo.”

Collaborative Creative Process With Nick Aldis

Green praised Nick Aldis for his role in co-writing the segment and helping her craft the emotional narrative that kept the title around her waist:

“Nick and I spent a lot of time on that promo. I’m very thankful for Nick Aldis because he helped me write that one and he helped me write the follow up a couple of weeks later.”

She highlighted that the key to the segment’s success was manipulating the audience’s expectations into believing her championship reign was coming to an immediate end:

“It hit because we were able to go through the emotions and change of pace and the ride we wanted to take them on. ‘What’s the angle, but how do we get there making them think we’re going to take it off me?’ That’s the crucial moment in that promo.”
