AAA Rey de Reyes 2026 featured a major development as El Grande Americano won the Rey de Reyes tournament final, earning a future opportunity at the AAA Mega Championship.
The tournament final was held as a Fatal Four-Way Match that included La Parka, Santos Escobar, the “Original” El Grande Americano (Chad Gable), and El Grande Americano II (Ludwig Kaiser). The winner would receive the ceremonial Rey de Reyes sword along with the guaranteed title shot.
The match quickly turned into a chaotic lucha libre contest with all four competitors exchanging offense throughout the bout. La Parka controlled much of the early momentum and delivered several high-impact moves, including a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a springboard moonsault to the floor that wiped out the other competitors.
Escobar also came close to victory on multiple occasions. At one point, he connected with a standing superplex and later delivered a TKO onto a chair that nearly secured the win.
Throughout the match, the two versions of El Grande Americano repeatedly clashed with one another. Their rivalry became a focal point of the contest, including a sequence where both competitors attempted submissions before escalating the fight by placing foreign objects inside their masks and striking each other.
The action eventually spilled out of the ring and into the crowd. During the chaos, the “Original” El Grande Americano was attacked among the fans and ultimately handcuffed to a safety rail, removing him from the match.
Back inside the ring, the final moments unfolded after Escobar attempted to use a chair to gain the advantage. However, the situation changed when a masked individual wearing Escobar’s old mask appeared and attacked him with the weapon.
The interference created the opening El Grande Americano needed. He quickly capitalized, hitting his finishing move and scoring the pinfall to secure the victory.
With the win, El Grande Americano claimed the ceremonial Rey de Reyes sword and officially earned a future match for the AAA Mega Championship.
