Matt Cardona sustained a head injury during a tag team match taped for WWE Main Event before the March 13 episode of SmackDown in Phoenix, Arizona. The cut was severe enough to require multiple staples.
Matt Cardona Head Injury on WWE Main Event
Cardona did not appear on SmackDown later that night. After receiving medical attention, he posted photos of the wound and the stapling procedure on X, writing: “Tonight on #WWEMainEvent, I tasted my own blood for the first time in a long time…and I felt ALIVE!” The images showed a deep laceration on the top of his head with several staples closing the injury.
Cardona’s Recent WWE Run
Cardona returned to WWE as a surprise entrant in the “Last Time Is Now” tournament in late 2025, marking his first appearance with the company in years. He officially joined the SmackDown roster on the January 2, 2026 episode and defeated Kit Wilson in his return match.
Since then, his results have been mixed. He fell short against Trick Williams in a number‑one contender qualifier, was eliminated early from the Royal Rumble by Oba Femi, and came up short in a United States Championship Open Challenge against Carmelo Hayes on the February 27 SmackDown. He has also been involved in a minor feud with Kit Wilson.
WrestleMania Status Uncertain
With WrestleMania 42 five weeks away, Cardona is not currently advertised for the event. WWE has not announced whether the head injury will affect his availability for upcoming shows, leaving his short‑term status unclear.
