Gunther Explains Theme Change – Gunther has confirmed that the decision to bring back his original entrance theme was entirely his own.
The former World Heavyweight Champion had long been associated with “Symphony No. 9,” specifically Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor. The classical piece became part of his identity during his dominant run in WWE’s NXT UK brand, where he held the NXT UK Championship for a record 870 days. The music helped shape his presentation as a disciplined and imposing competitor.
When Gunther moved to WWE’s main roster in 2022, his entrance music changed to Def Rebel’s “Prepare to Fight.” While the updated theme fit his transition to a larger stage, many fans continued to associate him with the orchestral sound that defined his earlier success.
In November 2025, Gunther surprised viewers by restoring “Symphony No. 9” as his entrance theme during his match against Je’Von Evans in The Last Time Is Now Tournament. The reaction from fans was immediate and largely positive. The return of the classical piece was viewed as a nod to his roots and to one of the most successful championship reigns in modern WWE history.
Speaking on Atlanta’s The Morning Shift on 92.9 The Game while promoting this week’s episode of WWE RAW, Gunther made it clear that the switch was simple and personal.
“Yeah, because I like that song more,” he said. “I had that for a long time, so I thought it was time to go back to it.”
This week’s RAW will include a tribute ceremony for AJ Styles, whom Gunther retired in January. Referring to himself as “The Career Killer,” Gunther has hinted that he could appear during Styles’ farewell segment.
“I saw that last Monday, actually, it was advertised. And I was thinking that it obviously has to be a farewell. Everybody has to gather around the ring and cry a little bit and get all emotional,” he explained. “I wish everybody would grow up and be able to move on in life and realize when it’s time to go. Just move on.
“I don’t know what I am doing with it right now, to be honest,” Gunther teased. “I could stay away from it, because why would I involve myself with it? [Although] t’s a bit tempting to try and ruin it, so we’ll see.”
The show will also feature appearances by Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, and Liv Morgan, who is set to reveal her WrestleMania decision. In addition, the final Triple Threat qualifying match for the Men’s Elimination Chamber will take place, with Jey Uso facing “Original” El Grande Americano and Bronson Reed.
