Blake Monroe Reacts to Controversial North American Title Loss – Blake Monroe has broken her silence about the disputed ending that cost her the NXT North American Championship against Thea Hail.
Backin December 2025, Monroe defended her North American Title against Hail in a match that ended in controversy. The finish saw Hail connect with a springboard Coffin Drop before going for the cover. As the referee counted three, Monroe lifted her shoulder, but the motion came a split second too late. The referee’s decision stood, and Monroe dropped the championship in a result that surprised many viewers.
Following the match, reports circulated claiming that the title change was not the original plan. Monroe was reportedly scheduled to retain. The unexpected switch is said to have created confusion behind the scenes, especially with a Christmas pre-show scheduled for later that night, forcing adjustments to creative direction.
Appearing on Notsam Wrestling with Sam Roberts, Monroe addressed the situation in her usual direct style.
“I mean look, the negative is Thea Hail will always be attached to me now. I have to wrestle her next week. You’re lucky I’ve shown up today. I was going to go to therapy but I decided to be a company woman and show up.”
She also commented on the reaction that followed the finish.
“But no – I think the theme of my career is people will talk about me, and who are you if you’re not talked about, to be honest. It was definitely shocking, and I feel like the referee was clearly in a rush to get home, he counted that quick. But no, it was definitely very exciting, and I’m gonna get my revenge next week, in under three minutes.”
Now, months after the disputed call, Monroe and Hail are set to meet again in a singles bout on WWE NXT. The upcoming match is expected to bring closure to a rivalry that began with one of the brand’s most debated finishes of the year.
