Ronda Rousey’s MMA Return Announced – Ronda Rousey is returning to competition, headlining a major mixed martial arts event announced by Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix. The former UFC champion will face fellow pioneer Gina Carano in her first fight in nearly a decade.
The bout is scheduled for May 16, 2026, and will stream live worldwide on Netflix at no extra cost to subscribers. The event will mark both the first live MMA broadcast for the platform and the first MMA card promoted by MVP. It will take place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, inside a hexagon cage.
“Been waiting so long to announce this. Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sport history, and we’re partnering with the fighter-first promoter, MVP, as well as the baddest streamer on the planet, Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future,” Rousey said.
Rousey built her reputation during a dominant run from 2011 to 2016, becoming one of the most recognizable names in the sport and a former UFC bantamweight champion. She later transitioned into professional wrestling with WWE, where she was part of the first women’s WrestleMania main event. Carano, who last fought in 2009, helped raise the profile of women’s MMA early in its growth and later moved into acting, appearing in projects like The Mandalorian and the Fast & Furious franchise.
“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it’s been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Carano stated. “She thanked me for opening up doors for her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor.”
The contest will follow the Unified Rules of MMA and take place at featherweight, set at 145 pounds. It is scheduled for five rounds, each lasting five minutes, with both fighters wearing 4-ounce gloves. Tickets will go on sale March 5 through Ticketmaster, the same day a kickoff press conference featuring both competitors is planned at the Intuit Dome.
The announcement positions the fight as a landmark moment, bringing together two figures who helped shape the early rise of women’s MMA and placing them in a global streaming spotlight for a long-awaited showdown.
