Thekla Wins AEW Women’s World Championship in Strap Match

The February 11 episode of AEW Dynamite closed with a major title change, as Thekla defeated Kris Statlander in a brutal Strap Match to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion.

Both competitors began the bout with the strap secured to their wrists, immediately setting the tone for a physical and unforgiving contest. Statlander tried to control the pace early, but Thekla repeatedly used quick escapes and the environment around ringside to shift momentum. The challenger whipped the champion with the strap and targeted her near the ring post and steps, eventually busting Statlander open as the action intensified.

Back in the ring, the pace stayed relentless. Thekla trapped Statlander in a Tarantula and followed up with high-impact offense, while the champion responded with a powerslam, lariats, and repeated strap shots to stay in control. Statlander nearly retained after a Blue Thunder Bomb and later planted Thekla with a tombstone piledriver, but the challenger refused to stay down.

The closing stretch saw chaos break out when Sisters of Sin attempted to get involved. Although the interference didn’t directly decide the match, it created just enough distraction. Thekla capitalized with a spear before trapping Statlander’s arms with the strap and delivering a decisive curb stomp to score the pinfall.

The victory marks Thekla’s first championship win in AEW and one of the biggest moments of her career to date. Meanwhile, Statlander’s reign comes to an end after 145 days, having originally captured the title at AEW All Out 2025.

As noted earlier, Kyle Fletcher also pulled off a major upset on Dynamite, defeating Tommaso Ciampa to regain the TNT Championship.
