The fourth-generation superstar and daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made her final television appearance on the January 27, 2026 episode of NXT. Her exit follows the expiration of her contract, which WWE reportedly attempted to renew.
According to reports, WWE offered Ava a new deal that included increased pay to keep her in the General Manager role. Despite the offer, Ava chose not to re-sign. The decision was described as personal, with Ava no longer wanting to continue in the same on-screen authority position. Instead, she opted to step away from WWE altogether to pursue other opportunities outside the company.
Ava’s departure marks a notable moment for NXT, as she had become a consistent authority figure on the brand. It also represents a rare instance of a member of the Johnson wrestling lineage voluntarily stepping away from the business after gaining a prominent role. At this time, there has been no indication that Ava plans to remain involved in professional wrestling in any capacity.
With the General Manager position now vacant, attention quickly shifted to potential replacements. Chelsea Green was among the first to publicly express interest. Green took to X to pitch herself for the GM role, leaning into her established on-screen persona. She wrote, “Hey @WWENXT I’ll be your new GM. I know a thing or two about running a continent… How hard can one little company be.” The comment referenced her reign as United States Champion and played off her comedic presentation.
The vacancy comes at a critical time for the brand. NXT is preparing for Vengeance Day later this month, leaving Shawn Michaels and the NXT creative team with a limited window to address the authority figure situation. WWE could introduce a permanent replacement or rely on a temporary General Manager moving forward.
As noted, Shayna Baszler has also emerged as a potential candidate following Ava’s exit. The next episode of NXT is expected to acknowledge Ava’s departure and begin addressing who will assume control of the brand.
