Ava Announces WWE Departure – Ava, real name Simone Johnson, has officially parted ways with WWE. In an Instagram post shared earlier today, Ava confirmed that her appearance on this past Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT was her final one. She revealed that she chose not to renew her contract with the company, bringing her time in WWE to an end.
In her message, Ava reflected on her journey and addressed the decision directly. “This past Tuesday was my last appearance on NXT & subsequently WWE. Thank you to all who have cheered, watched, and supported me through my journey. While my decision to not renew my contract was very difficult, it’s also a new turning point in my life. It has been an honor & a privilege to be Ava.”
In a statement, the company wished Ava all the best in her future endeavors:
“WWE thanks and applauds Simone Garcia Johnson for her stellar work as Ava and beyond,” they said. “Her passion, dedication, and impact were felt across the entire NXT and WWE community. We wish her the very best in all future endeavors.”
Ava’s departure closes a chapter that carried both historical significance and creative evolution. As the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, she signed with WWE in February 2020 and became the first fourth-generation wrestler in company history. At the time, her signing drew widespread attention, not only because of her lineage, but also due to expectations surrounding her future in the business.
She officially debuted on NXT television in October 2022 as part of Joe Gacy’s faction, The Schism. That role marked her introduction as an on-screen performer before her position within the brand shifted. Over time, Ava transitioned away from an in-ring focus and into an authority role, which ultimately became her most prominent presence on NXT.
In January 2024, Ava made headlines once again when she was named the youngest General Manager in WWE history at just 22 years old. As General Manager, she was positioned as a central figure in shaping the direction of the NXT brand. One of her most notable moments in the role came at Stand & Deliver 2024, where she introduced the NXT Women’s North American Championship, expanding opportunities within the women’s division.
Her decision not to renew her contract signals a clear turning point, both for her career and for NXT. With Ava now officially gone, questions remain about who will be selected to fill the General Manager role moving forward. WWE has not announced a replacement at this time.
For now, Ava’s WWE run comes to a close as a distinctive chapter defined by history, visibility, and responsibility at a young age. What comes next for her remains to be seen, but her exit marks the end of a unique era for the NXT brand.
