Backstage Update on Trey Miguel's AEW Release

Backstage Update on Trey Miguel’s AEW Release – Details surrounding Trey Miguel’s reported AEW release remain unclear, but new insight was shared on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Bryan Alvarez discussed the situation alongside Dave Meltzer, offering limited clarification while noting that firm answers are still hard to come by.

Miguel stated on Sunday that he would be stepping away from wrestling. Shortly after, reports surfaced claiming that he had been released from his AEW contract just days after signing. Despite the sudden nature of the news, Alvarez explained that there has been very little confirmed information circulating internally.

During the discussion, Alvarez addressed the speculation directly and pushed back on several rumors that have gained traction online. He emphasized that, based on what he has heard, the decision did not originate from AEW talent relations or AEW President Tony Khan. Alvarez said, “No one’s really saying much. Well, some people are saying certain things, but my understanding is whatever it is, it came from up above. I know there’s a lot of rumors but it had nothing to do with anybody in AEW talent, anything like that, or Tony (Khan). Something happened from way up and he was released.”

Miguel’s situation has drawn additional attention due to the timing. He, along with Zachary Wentz, Dezmond Xavier, and Myron Reed, recently departed TNA after their contracts or working agreements expired at the end of the year. The group then moved to AEW, marking a major shift in their careers.

However, only days after that transition, Miguel was notably absent from AEW programming. Wentz, Xavier, and Reed appeared on camera during Saturday’s episode of AEW Collision in a backstage segment. Viewers quickly noticed that Miguel was not present, which fueled further speculation about his status before the release report emerged.

As of now, neither AEW nor Miguel has provided a detailed public explanation. Alvarez’s comments suggest the decision came from higher-level management, but the exact circumstances remain unknown. Until more information is made available, Miguel’s AEW departure continues to raise questions.
