Rey Mysterio Expected Back at WWE Performance Center Ahead of In-Ring Return – Rey Mysterio has been absent from WWE television for several months, but his return may be just around the corner. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider (via PWInsider Elite), the Hall of Famer is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this week as part of the process to be medically cleared for an in-ring comeback.
The last time fans saw Mysterio compete was on the April 18, 2025 episode of SmackDown. That night, the LWO’s Rey, Dragon Lee, and Rey Fenix scored a victory over American Made’s Chad Gable, Brutus Creed, and Julius Creed. Shortly afterward, Mysterio stepped away from the ring due to injury. His anticipated return comes as WWE builds toward Crown Jewel 2025 under the creative direction of Triple H, raising speculation about what role “The Master of the 619” might play on the road to the premium live event.
Although sidelined from WWE action, Mysterio still made an appearance earlier this year at AAA’s Triplemania XXXIII and he’s expected to to play a big role with the promotion. During the event, his storyline with his son Dominik Mysterio resurfaced. Rey was tasked with presenting the AAA World Championship to the winner, which turned out to be Dominik. The Intercontinental Champion demanded his father fasten the belt around his waist, leading to an uncomfortable moment before Dominik celebrated with The Judgment Day.
The father-son rivalry has been one of WWE’s most personal feuds, as Dominik turned against Rey to align with The Judgment Day in 2022. With Rey nearing a comeback, questions now arise about whether WWE will revisit their heated family storyline or move him into new programs as the company prepares for its next major international show.
