Shayna Baszler on Potentially Joining AEW – Following her release from WWE during the May 2 roster cuts, Shayna Baszler is weighing her next move—and All Elite Wrestling might be on the horizon. Baszler, who had been with WWE since 2017, appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show on Wednesday to discuss her future in professional wrestling.
When asked about the possibility of signing with AEW, where several of her close friends currently compete, Baszler didn’t shut the door. “I wouldn’t give a hard no to any of that,” she said, leaving fans intrigued about a potential shift to Tony Khan’s promotion.
“It’s not a secret, I’m really good friends with Marina (Shafir), I have a lot of good friends there,” she said. “So there’s been some discussion as to what the future could hold, for sure.”
When asked specifically if she would like to sign with AEW, Baszler responded:
“I said almost exactly this statement when people were talking about my UFC to WWE transition: I don’t care as much of the letters behind it, I just want to practice my craft. And if I can do that alongside my friends, that’s always a great place to be. So, I’m not going to say a hard no to any of that.”
When asked about reports that she was working as a producer in NXT, Baszler said she was just at the Performance Center helping some of her friends that day.
“I happened to be in to help some friends of mine work on some submission transition stuff,” she said. “And it happened to be on a Tuesday.”
Baszler said she put on a headset to listen to the producer’s calls during the show that night, as Bryan Danielson had once recommended that to her as a way to learn.
“But I wasn’t like standing there putting this match together, writing down the notes and on a mic to the truck being like, all right, we’re gonna need a floor camera.”
“As far as that whole thing sitting on a headset on NXT, I’ve been doing that forever.”
Earlier in the conversation, Baszler confirmed that she was released from her contract, rather than it having expired. She noted that she had three years remaining on her deal at the time. She is believed to have re-signed with the company in June 2024.
