8/13 AEW Dynamite Results – We shoot inside the Andrew J. Brady Music Center in Cincinnati, OH., where we hear the familiar voice of Excalibur open the show like he always does. “It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means …”
MJF, Hangman Page Go Face-To-Face
From there, the equally familiar sounds of the theme music for Maxwell Jacob Friedman hits. MJF makes his way out to the ring to kick off this week’s show. He settles inside the squared circle and his music dies down. Hangman Page’s entrance tune hits next.
Out comes the reigning AEW World Champion to deliver some verbal “Cowboy sh*” in his advertised face-to-face segment with MJF. His music dies down. MJF begins on the microphone first.
Friedman calls Hangman “Seabiscuit,” and begin running him down, including a mention of how he lost the title the first time he defended it. Page sternly points out to Friedman that the Seabiscuit story ends with that horse winning.
Hangman then tells MJF that if he’s not here to fight or execute that contract for a world title shot to go home and admit he doesn’t have the stomach. MJF demands a mic that Page hasn’t touched, telling the crowd to shut up. He says that good and bad are subjective, but MJF isn’t the problem. Hangman Page is.
MJF then runs Page down over the fact that fans act like he’s an infallible god. MJF learned from an early day that an all-powerful god can’t be all good, and neither is Hangman, before telling the world champ he’s not a god, he’s a weak-minded, depressed, alcoholic little boy.
MJF doesn’t have a problem with being called the devil, as he’d rather have that than be paraded around to be a phony, false idol like Page. MJF believes that he’s real, before saying to take back what’s his in the world title and take the wolf’s sheep clothing off Page. He ends by saying he’s going to crucify everyone’s God.
Page says he understands the point he’s trying to make…but MJF doesn’t seem to understand that no one knows Adam’s faults more than he does. Some might look past his mistakes but he won’t, he will own up to them. He then tells MJF that he keeps acting like he has a match at Forbidden Door.
He says what he has, however, is a contract that he can execute. MJF says he’s a Day 1 guy in AEW so he should know that AEW is about going all in, so do it. He continues to needle Friedman, calling him a coward, and this riles Max enough to announce he’s executing his contract for a match at Forbidden Door.
The realization sets in quick as the fans mock him for his decision, and Hangman says, “I’ll see you at Forbidden Door, dumbass!” Hangman’s music hits as he leaves the ring, and MJF kicks the ropes out of anger and frustration to end the explosive opening segment.
Jon Moxley vs. Kevin Knight
A video package airs showing the recent history brewing between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin. In a live backstage video, we hear from the leader of The Death Riders. Mox says that whatever Darby thinks is happening at Forbidden Door is not.
His theme hits and he begins his walk to the ring for the first match of this week’s show. Marina Shafir is by his side as always. His music dies down when he settles in the ring. The theme for his opponent, Kevin Knight, hits to bring out “The Jet.”
The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with this one. We see an early flurry by Knight is cut off by Mox, who beats Knight down to the mat before looking for a Texas Cloverleaf. Knight breaks free, sending Mox through the ropes to the outside.
Mox catches Knight on the outside, sending him to the barricade for a few punches before sending Kevin into the announce table. He heads to the ring just long enough to break the ref’s count as Bailey checks on Knight. Kevin starts to fight back.
Mox catches him for a scoop, only for Knight to evade being sent into the ring steps. He jumps onto the apron for a missile dropkick that sends Mox to the floor, before sending him back into the ring. Mox with an eye gouge to slow things down, but Knight sends him onto the elevated ramp before landing a dive.
We see some mounted punches by Knight, before Mox manages to break away. He uses the steps to get off the ramp and Kevin launches off the ramp, only to be sent crashing to the floor by Mox, who sits on the apron to watch the ref check on Knight.
On that note, the show shifts gears and heads into a mid-match commercial break as the action continues. When the show returns, we see Knight finally manage to break free of Mox’s grip to fight back, but the former world champ goes right back on him.
This leads to the pair trading strikes, until Mox takes a bite out of Kevin to bring it to an end, something that Knight offers in retaliation, before dropping Mox to the canvas for a splash and a near-fall. He sends Mox to the corner now, with the former champ trying to fight back.
Knight connects with a super-plex to get a two count before Mox kicks out. Mox gets to his feet as Knight goes back after him, with Mox taking him down with a DDT. A Gotch-style piledriver gets reversed by Kevin for a two count, and Knight takes Mox back down for another two count.
The fight spills out of the ring before Mox heads back in, with Yuta intervening only to get laid out by Knight, who gets caught by the former champ. Knight tries to fight back for a splash but lands on the knees of Mox, who locks a tight submission in and squeezes until Knight goes out.
Winner: Jon Moxley
Will Ospreay Returns And Issues Challenge For Forbidden Door
Once the match wraps up, Jon Moxley is joined by The Death Riders for a post-match beat down of Knight. “Speedball” Mike Bailey tries to make the save, but the numbers game is too much for JetSpeed. That is, however, until Darby Allin’s music hits.
Darby Allin rushes to the scene with a body bag and a skateboard. The distraction as he comes down is enough for JetSpeed to get some revenge, clearing out the ring sans Yuta…who gets laid out by Darby with the skateboard. He puts Yuta in the body bag.
Whatever he has planned doesn’t pan out, however, as Claudio Castagnoli stops him from hitting a Coffin Drop before pulling Wheeler out of the bag. Castagnoli goes after Allin now, putting him into that very same bag to the shock and awe of the crowd.
He then zips it up, hoisting Darby up on his shoulders in the body bag, before proceeding to hit his trademark airplane spin like that. The Death Riders chaos continues until out of nowhere, Will Ospreay appears at ringside from the crowd.
Ospreay ferociously fighs off the group until they retreat. Ospreay then gets in the ring and mentions if Mox doesn’t want Darby one-on-one, he can get his friends, Ospreay will get his, and they can have an Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door: London.
Mercedes Mone, Thekla & Skye Blue vs. Alex Windsor, Queen Aminata & Willow Nightingale
The theme hits for Mercedes Mone and out comes the TBS Champion, among many other titles she currently holds, for the next match of the evening. As she settles inside the squared circle for advertised women’s Trios action in our second bout of the show, we head into a quick pre-match commercial break.
When the show returns, we see the rest of the ring entrances. “Timeless” Toni Storm even gets one, just for taking her spot in the crowd to watch. Athena is also in the audience taking this one in. The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with this one.
Skye and Windsor kick things off for their respective teams, with Blue breaking out of a powerbomb attempt to land an elbow strike. She hits the ropes, but runs into a shoulder block by Windsor who makes the tag to Nightingale. Willow sends Skye to the opposite corner for a series of strikes.
She then takes her down with a lariat for a near-fall. Tag made to Moné as Aminata tags in as well, with the CEO taking Aminata down before the Queen fights back with a swinging full nelson followed by the chocolate kisses, before bringing her to the corner for a tag to Windsor.
She takes Moné to the mat but a Sharpshooter attempt is blocked, allowing the CEO to take control for a tag to Skye as we head into a mid-match commercial break. When the show returns, we see Thekla and Willow are the legal women in the match and Willow takes the Toxic Spider down with a missile dropkick.
The match quickly breaks down with all six women getting involved, and it all leads to a pair of corner splashes and a cannonball taking the CEO and her pals for the night down hard. Aminata gets the tag and takes Thekla down for a two count, and as she sees Julia up on the apron, takes Hart down with a headbutt.
We see Moné get the tag, but the Queen takes her down hard before tagging in Windsor, who gets the CEO down for a near-fall. A Sharpshooter is applied now and Mercedes is struggling to get to the ropes, just as Skye reaches over for a tag. Blue goes off but gets taken out by Aminata, only for Thekla to take the Queen down. Windsor gets Blue in the Sharpshooter for the win.
Winners: Alex Windsor, Queen Aminata & Willow Nightingale
Tag-Team Tilt Set For AEW Dynamite: Glasgow Next Week
Once the match wraps up, our attention is drawn to Athena and Toni Storm fighting it out on the balcony, and they take that elsewhere as we see the ring cleared of everyone but Windsor and Moné, with the champ going after one of her challengers for Forbidden Door.
The fight between Athena and Toni Storm makes its way to ringside with the Forever Champion on the upper hand only for Storm to fight back from the ropes. Windsor forces Mercedes out of the ring, before Toni issues a challenge for herself and Windsor to take on Mone and Athena next week in Glasgow.
Will Ospreay Elaborates On Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage Challenge
We shoot backstage, where Renee Paquette is joined by her guest at this time, Will Ospreay. “The Aerial Assassin” reveals that Tony Khan is thrilled to have a Lights Out Steel Cage Match for Forbidden Door. There are a couple people to be confirmed, but Will had a chat with his “old boss.”
Ospreay then announced that NJPW President and Japanese wrestling legend Hiroshi Tanahashi is joining him and Darby Allin to face The Death Riders in this match at Forbidden Door. When asked about his neck, he simply says he’s fine before telling Renee to let her husband Mox know Will wants a chat next week in Glasgow.
Adam Copeland vs. Big Stoke
From there, we head back to ringside for our next match as Adam Copeland gets a great reaction including the crowd singing his song. FTR’s music hits and we see security nearly dragging Stokely out to the ring to get this match underway. Stokely tries, but Cope takes him down with ease.
Stoke goes for another shoulder tackle but it doesn’t even faze Copeland. Hathaway tries to get on Cope’s good side but gets walloped, sending Stokely to the outside before grabbing a microphone for an informal poll from the crowd. He asks one guy what he thinks of Stokely.
We are reminded of what Stoke said last week about him being short, bald, and getting no hoes. Cope then asks someone in the crowd what Stoke’s chances are, and gets a “is that a serious question?” response. Cope brings Stoke back in the ring as FTR comes to the ramp, but they offer no help as Cope lands a spear.
He asks FTR if they’re just gonna leave him, and eventually they go after Cope, which means the restraining order is null and void. Cope finally gets some revenge as he goes after FTR, before Stokely gets him in the face with some powder. The ref calls for the bell.
Winner via DQ: Adam Copeland
Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Reunion Continues, HOOK Is Coming
Once the match wraps up, we see FTR look for a spiked piledriver on the Rated R Superstar, but Christian Cage comes out with a Spike of his own, the barbed wire board that Adam Copeland is usually carrying around. He runs down and chases off FTR. Nick Wayne comes to the ring with a chair.
He goes to swing it, but is fended off by a Spike swing from Christian, which forces Wayne to regroup with his mom and Kip Sabian on the outside as we see Cage and Cope stare each other down as an enormously loud “Hug it out! Hug it out!” chant spreads throughout the building.
Cope has the chair in his hand as Cage offers Spike to him, and Cope drops the chair to accept, before dropping that as the men who once considered each other brothers embrace to a pop from the crowd. It doesn’t last long as Cage leaves the ring quickly after.
We then hear Cope’s music as he watches his one-time best friend retreat up the ramp, putting an end to the eventful post-match scene. After that we get a vignette of a Gotham-like cityscape, before the HOOK signal teases the former FTW Champion’s impending return to AEW.
All Star 8-Man Tag
Hiromu Takahashi, Hologram, Brody King & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander & The Young Bucks
Now it’s time for the next match of the evening, the late-added All Star 8-Man Tag. We head back down to ringside, where we get a weird entrance for “Mr. Instant Replay” and Slick Nick, as the former EVP duo known as The Young Bucks make their way to the ring.
Out next are Josh Alexander and new TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. The Don Callis Family duo join Nicholas and Matthew Jackson in this scheduled multi-man match. Out next are Hologram, Brody King, and Tomohiro Ishii, before we find out who is joining the team as the mystery member from NJPW.
With that said, NJPW veteran Hiromu Takahashi is introduced. He makes his way out and settles in the ring. And with that, this match gets underway as the bell sounds to get things officially off-and-running. Takahashi and Fletcher start the match off for their respective teams.
In the early goings, it is Fletcher who gets the upper-hand before chaos ensues, leading to the match spilling to the outside of the ring. The Bucks take out Brody King, but they and the Don Callis Family duo get hit with a dive by Hologram.
On that note, the show shifts gears and heads into a mid-match commercial break as the action continues. When we return, we see Hologram landing a reverse rana on Nick before stopping an intercepting Kyle Fletcher. Tag made to Takahashi, who fends off the attack of the Bucks and the Family to land a flurry of offense.
Running kick on Fletcher for a cover and a two count. Alexander tries to intercept him on the turnbuckle but is cut off, but this gives an opening as Josh and Fletcher quickly trade tags leading to a tombstone piledriver, but this only gives Kyle a near-fall as Takahashi kicks out.
Hiromu builds up speeds on the ropes to land a big lariat on the Protostar, before things break down once again. Tag made to Alexander after the Bucks intervene, and Josh hits an elbow strike only to get dropped with a flatliner by Takahashi. Pin is broken up by Fletcher.
As this is happening, we see Tomohiro come in, only for Fletcher to send him out of the ring just as Brody comes back in to send the Protostar out to the floor. Hologram sends Matt down as well before hitting a rope walk for a dive onto the pile outside. Back in the ring, Hiromu escapes a C4 Spike to drop Alexander with the Time Bomb for the win.
Winners: Hiromu Takahashi, Hologram, Brody King & Tomohiro Ishii
Swerve Strickland & Kazuchika Okada Pull-Apart
We head to the entrance stage area, where Renee Paquette introduces her guest at this time, the one and only Swerve Strickland. Out he comes accompanied as always by Prince Nana. Swerve is asked about his match against Okada at Forbidden Door, something Swerve says is his top priority even as folks might be worried about him needing to slow down.
He is quickly interrupted by the reigning AEW Unified Champion, who stares Strickland down on the ramp before taking the microphone to tell him that with that knee, he has no chance. He may as well give up now. Swerve simply replies by asking “Whose House?” garnering “Swerve’s House” chants from the crowd.
As you might expect, Okada then says, “B*tch,” only for Swerve to immediately shove him off the ramp before security rushes out to stop a fight from breaking out. The two are kept apart, as they jaw at each other off the microphone as the brief but eventful segment comes to an end.
Jon Moxley Recruits The Young Bucks For Forbidden Door
We shoot backstage after commentary hypes our main event of the evening, which is coming up next. Before that, we go backstage where Jon Moxley is asked if he’s chosen his teammates for Forbidden Door.
It is mentioned that NJPW President and Japanese wrestling legend Hiroshi Tanahashi will be joining the fight against him for the opposing team. Mox walks off, approaches The Young Bucks and shuts the door in the camera’s face.
Tony Schiavone Makes Some Big Announcements
From there, we head back to ringside as Tony Schiavone confirms some more matches for Forbidden Door: Christian Cage and Adam Copeland will join forces, as they will team up to face Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian.
The Lights Out Steel Cage Match is now official, with the Golden Lovers (Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega) joining Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli, teaming with Gabe Kidd and The Young Bucks.
The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs) vs. LFI (RUSH, Dralistico & The Beast Mortos)
It’s main event time!
After the big announcements from Tony Schiavone, we head back to ringside, where The Opps make their way to the ring for our final match of the evening. Out next are LFI, and we get this match underway. Mortos and Hobbs start things off for their respective teams.
We see Hobbs settle into the early offensive lead, before the Beast fights back for a tag to Dralistico. Tag made to Samoa Joe as well, and Joe lays into Dralistico before tagging in Shibata. He goes after LFI on the apron, and this gets them riled up as they go after Shibata leading to a triple dropkick.
On that note, we shift gears and head into a mid-match commercial break as the action in this trios main event continues. When the show returns, we see Mortos has taken control of the match as he gets a near-fall on Shibata. Tag made to RUSH, who sends The Wrestler to the corner for a flurry of offense.
Shibata gets back to his feet, absorbing the strikes from RUSH before trading them. He fights back from the corner with a boot to the face, laying in some more after before RUSH turns it around for a bit. Shibata back to his feet as they trade strikes once more.
From there, we see both men are down before Mortos and Hobbs get the tags in, picking back up for a hoss fight that leads to Dralistico getting caught in the crossfire. Dralistico gets sent away before Hobbs drops Mortos for the cover, but LFI break up the pin.
Dralistico and Joe each with a tag, with Joe catching Dralistico on a springboard attack to lock in the Coquina Clutch. He cranks back on it. Meanwhile, RUSH and Mortos are kept at bay by the other members of The Opps. Dralistico eventually goes out. The Opps pick up the win.
Winners: The Opps
MJF Sneak-Attacks Hangman Page
Once the main event of the evening is in the rear view mirror, we head backstage to the parking garage area, where we see AEW World Champion Hangman Page. He’s asked about the match against MJF, but the challenger blindsides him for a sneak attack.
MJF slams the Hangman’s head against the hood of a nearby car, asking Page if he remembers when MJF said he’d break him and saying he ain’t seen nothing yet. MJF walks off, leaving Hangman laid out as this week’s show goes off the air on that note. Thanks for joining us.
