Dominik Mysterio Confirms Legitimate Rib Injury That Pulled Him from Night of Champions – WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio has addressed speculation surrounding the injury that forced him out of his scheduled Night of Champions match against AJ Styles earlier this year.
Appearing on The Club 520 podcast, the self-proclaimed “Dirty Dom” confirmed the injury was legitimate, pushing back on fan claims that it was part of a storyline.
“I dislocated my two lower ribs and they were digging into my cartilage. So that was why I was actually hurt,” Mysterio explained. “Everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt.”
The injury temporarily derailed Mysterio’s title defenses but did not keep him sidelined for long. He returned to action and ultimately defended the Intercontinental Championship against Styles at SummerSlam, emerging victorious.
Since that win, Mysterio has continued his strong run on Monday Night Raw, adding two more televised victories to his record. His next challenge will take place outside of WWE. This Saturday, August 16, he is scheduled to compete at AAA’s TripleMania XXXIII in Mexico City in a four-way bout for the AAA Mega Championship.
The event will be available to stream live and free on AAA’s official YouTube channel, marking one of the rare occasions that Mysterio will wrestle for another promotion while still holding WWE gold.
