Update on Dominik Mysterio’s Injury Status – There’s new information regarding the injury that forced WWE to cancel Dominik Mysterio’s scheduled Intercontinental Championship defense at WWE Night of Champions. According to a report from PWInsider, Mysterio is currently dealing with a rib cage issue, which led to the late change in the card.
The Intercontinental Champion appeared on the June 23 episode of Monday Night RAW, where the cancellation was made official by General Manager Adam Pearce in a backstage segment with AJ Styles. Although Dominik was involved in a brief Judgment Day segment and later interviewed by Jackie Redmond, where he mentioned his ribs weren’t at 100 percent, no in-ring activity took place.
The report adds that while the injury was serious enough for WWE to adjust its creative plans, Mysterio is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period. There is currently no official timeline for his return, and WWE has not announced a replacement match for Styles at this weekend’s premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dominik, who won the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 41 in a Fatal 4-Way Match, has been prominently featured in ongoing Judgment Day storylines alongside Finn Bálor, J.D. McDonagh, and Raquel Rodriguez. His recent pairing with Liv Morgan — cut short by her own injury — was also a central part of WWE’s programming this summer, adding further disruption to creative plans with both talents now dealing with medical setbacks.
As of now, the Intercontinental Title will not be defended at Night of Champions.
