Bully Ray Weighs In on TNA-WWE crossover – WWE Hall of Famer and longtime TNA veteran Bully Ray has given his perspective on the ongoing TNA-WWE crossover, which sees NXT star Trick Williams holding the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. During an episode of Busted Open After Dark, Bully broke down the storyline’s implications, both for the title picture and the TNA brand as a whole.
Trick Williams will defend the title in a Triple Threat Match at Slammiversary on Saturday, July 20, in Montreal. He faces two TNA staples—Joe Hendry and Mike Santana—in what is expected to be one of the company’s biggest matches of the year.
Bully Ray acknowledged the unusual circumstances of the bout, stating, “Joe Hendry and Mike don’t like each other, but here’s what they have in common. They need to get that strap off of Trick Williams.”
He also posed a broader question to fans, one that reflects a growing debate within the industry: is it good for business to have a TNA title held by someone from NXT?
“Do you think it’s time for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship to come back to TNA, or do you like it on the shoulder and around the waist of an NXT talent?” Bully asked. “Let me know right now. I think TNA needs the help.”
While admitting that TNA’s product is solid, Bully emphasized that visibility is still a key issue. “I don’t know what TNA is doing that’s really knocking everybody’s socks off with their own product. It’s good, don’t get me wrong. It’s good, but not enough people see it. If Trick Williams can hold on to that TNA championship, more people will see it, thus giving more credibility to TNA wrestling.”
With Slammiversary set to take place at the Verdun Auditorium in Montreal, the outcome of the match could have significant ramifications for the perception and direction of the TNA brand in this new cross-promotional era.
