CM Punk Disses John Cena with “Punkanomics” Promo – On the June 27 episode of WWE SmackDown, live from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, CM Punk and John Cena delivered a heated final face-off ahead of their Night of Champions main event, and it ended with Punk leaving Cena speechless.
Earlier in the day, Punk appeared on the Night of Champions Kickoff Show, where he apologized to Saudi Arabia for his infamous 2020 “blood money” tweet aimed at The Miz. He also teased that he wasn’t going to just recreate his iconic “pipe bomb” promo—but would instead take a new approach.
Fans got their answer during the night’s final segment. After Cena declared that he “had Punk’s number” and that the title match would be just a formality, the familiar beat of “Basic Thuganomics” hit the speakers—only it wasn’t Cena performing.
CM Punk appeared dressed in Cena’s old-school gear, complete with chain and cap, announcing he was delivering a dose of “Punkanomics.” Punk mocked Cena for aging, slammed his legacy, and joked about WWE hiring his exes.
“I’m not here to try and one-up the Pipe Bomb,” Punk said. “You stole that from me anyway. So I’m stealing this. This ain’t Thuganomics, this is Punkanomics.”
Punk then proceeded to unleash a scathing, freestyle-style promo. He mocked Cena’s legacy, took jabs at his age, and even threw shade about WWE hiring Cena’s ex-girlfriends. One of the harshest lines came when Punk said:
“Get it in while you can. In six months, he’ll be gone, but I’ll still be here having fun. He won’t have time for you little people anymore, and we’re looking at a washed-up bum.”
He then delivered a pointed takedown, comparing Cena unfavorably to Hulk Hogan:
“You’re like a fishbelly Hulk Hogan—but more problematic.”
Punk’s verbal assault reached its peak with a timely reference to the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake feud that had recently taken the music world by storm:
“When it comes to Best In The World, I’m your vessel. Because millions chant my name, and at you, they chant ‘You Can’t Wrestle.’ John, there’s one more wish to make. Tomorrow night, you’re going to lose to Kendrick—because bitch, you’re my Drake.”
The crowd roared in approval, and Cena—visibly stunned—was left without a word in response. Punk dropped the mic and walked off, having flipped the entire narrative heading into one of the most anticipated matches of 2025.
Punk will challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship this Saturday at WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. With momentum firmly in Punk’s corner after tonight’s promo war, the showdown is poised to be one of the year’s most explosive.
