Backstage Update on Braun Strowman’s WWE Release – As noted, Braun Strowman’s release from WWE was attributed to both financial considerations and concerns surrounding his physical condition following a series of injuries.
New insight from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has added further clarity to the decision. Dave Meltzer reiterated that “Strowman’s release was said to be a combination of his high salary and injuries.” WWE reportedly evaluated both the cost of keeping the former Universal Champion on the roster and how well he could physically perform going forward.
Meltzer expanded on the injury-related concerns, particularly focusing on how they affected Strowman’s in-ring work. He wrote, “He had not been moving well in the ring since coming back from a major hamstring injury,” suggesting that his recent performances did not meet expectations due to ongoing physical limitations.
Perhaps most notably, Meltzer cited a WWE source who commented on the severity of the situation behind the scenes. According to the report, “one person there noted to us that he was hurt worse than people realized.” This internal feedback suggests that Strowman’s condition may have been more serious than previously disclosed, contributing to the final decision to part ways.
Strowman had only recently returned to WWE TV following an extended absence due to a neck fusion surgery in 2023. Though he remained a popular figure with fans and was protected creatively in his appearances, WWE’s decision appears to have been rooted in long-term cost-effectiveness and concerns about his ability to maintain high-level performances moving forward
