Mariah May Reportedly Declined AEW Re-Signing Ahead of Big Match – Despite recent speculation about Mariah May’s potential exit from AEW and a reported interest from WWE, new information suggests her departure may not be as imminent as originally believed.
Initial reports from Fightful indicated that May’s AEW contract could expire as early as this summer, fueling rumors that she might be WWE-bound before the year ends. However, PWInsider.com has since offered a different perspective, stating they were told May has “significant time” left on her current AEW deal. One source speculated that her contract could extend into November or potentially beyond that.
May has not appeared on AEW programming since her storyline with Toni Storm concluded at AEW Revolution. Following the feud, rumors began circulating that May had requested her release. However, PWInsider noted they have not been able to verify those claims.
Adding to the discussion, Dave Meltzer addressed May’s situation in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He wrote, “Apparently, May made it clear at that time that she was not signing a new deal and so they booked it at that time for that reason.” Meltzer suggested that the “time” refers to the period surrounding her Revolution match with Toni Storm.
He further noted that AEW often sidelines talent once it becomes clear they do not intend to re-sign. Meltzer pointed to past examples like Penta and Fenix and suggested that May is currently experiencing similar treatment. While the exact length of May’s contract remains unconfirmed, Meltzer said there has been internal WWE discussion about bringing her in, and key WWE personnel are aware that May has long aspired to join the company.
“She’s another one whose dream had always been WWE,” Meltzer wrote. “To the point that I was surprised when she first signed the deal with AEW out of Stardom, although her AEW stardom was her ticket to being pushed as a star from day one in WWE.”
As of this writing, Mariah May has not publicly addressed the reports about her AEW contract status or potential WWE interest.
