Bully Ray Not Surprised by The Rock’s WWE Fan Reception – The road to WWE WrestleMania 40 has been marked by unexpected twists and turns, particularly with the return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, throwing a curveball into the anticipated main event picture. Despite initial speculation that Cody Rhodes would challenge Roman Reigns for the spotlight, The Rock’s comeback shifted the dynamics of the storyline.
Discussing the fan reaction to The Rock’s resurgence on “Busted Open Radio,” former WWE star Bully Ray reflected on the audience’s response, noting the loyalty and support Cody Rhodes has garnered. While acknowledging The Rock’s undeniable star power and mainstream appeal, Bully emphasized Rhodes’ hard-earned position as a top contender.
“Cody’s been through so much,” Bully said. “Cody is supposed to be the guy and it seems like Rock was just going to waltz in and take his spot. I don’t think the people were gonna have it.”
According to Bully, Rhodes’ grassroots journey and dedication to building his fanbase make him a deserving candidate for the WrestleMania main event. Despite the allure of a showdown between The Rock and Reigns, Bully questioned whether the timing was right for such a clash.
“If there is anybody who has climbed that ladder of success and built a fanbase, brick-by-brick, fan-by-fan, in the WWE lately, it’s been Cody,” Bully continued. “[Rhodes has] been doing it the old school way and the right way. I am not surprised at all that people turned on The Rock in almost a heartbeat.”
While Rhodes and Reigns are poised to headline WrestleMania 40, the possibility of The Rock’s continued involvement looms large. Whether it materializes as a tag team match alongside Reigns or in another capacity, The Rock’s presence is sure to add further intrigue to the WrestleMania spectacle.
