WWE Stands By Choice To Not Crown Cody Rhodes Winner At WrestleMania 39 – In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE officials are confident in their decision to not have Cody Rhodes win at WrestleMania 39.
According to sources, those within WWE believe that the ongoing growth and development of the company validate their choice to not crown Cody Rhodes as the champion during that time, and they believe this stance will hold true in the future as well.
“Those in WWE are strong on the idea that growth is proof that the decision not to put the title on Rhodes at that time was the right one, and in theory, someday they will.”
At WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes faced Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title but was unable to secure the victory. Cody’s opportunity arose after he made a return from injury and earned a shot at Reigns by winning the men’s Royal Rumble match from the coveted number 30 spot.
The outcome was surprising for many, as there was widespread anticipation that Cody might dethrone the reigning champion, “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns. Prior to the match, there were reports suggesting that Reigns would take some time off, which ultimately didn’t happen. Behind the scenes, it had been known among insiders that Rhodes wouldn’t emerge victorious despite the logical scenario presented by Reigns’ extensive title reign.
Since the event, Reigns has continued his captivating storyline with The Usos, while Cody Rhodes recently concluded a three-ple feud with Brock Lesnar, achieving a 2-1 record against “The Beast Incarnate.”
