Cody Rhodes Addresses Fan Speculation About Possible WWE Heel Turn – Cody Rhodes has remained one of WWE’s top babyfaces since returning to the company, but speculation among fans continues to grow about whether the “American Nightmare” might eventually make a heel turn.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Rhodes addressed those ongoing discussions and gave his take on the idea of turning villainous.
According to Rhodes, the entire heel-turn conversation largely lives on social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter). While he acknowledged the intensity of the fan discussion, he made it clear that the idea hasn’t been explored internally within WWE.
“One thing I noticed about that [heel turn conversation], it only really exists on X — is that — and it’s deep, the discussion. It’s a deep discussion,” Rhodes said.
While he didn’t entirely dismiss the idea, he was hesitant to say that a turn was inevitable. “You never say never in wrestling,” he noted, “but plenty of people in wrestling have got the capacity for the light and the dark, but I don’t know. I don’t know if we’re on that road in the time I have left within my time in wrestling.”
Rhodes added, “Who knows though?… You never wanna say never.”
Despite being heavily featured in top storylines, including a current feud with John Cena heading into SummerSlam, Rhodes has stayed true to his heroic persona since returning to WWE in 2022. He remains one of the most popular and marketable stars in the company, and for now, it appears that WWE has no plans to alter that dynamic.
Still, with Rhodes not fully ruling it out and fans continuing to engage in spirited debate online, the possibility of a heel turn may remain on the table — even if only as a long-term “what if.”
