Cody Rhodes Heel Turn Rumors Shut Down – A new report has put an end to ongoing speculation surrounding a potential heel turn for the former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. While some fans have floated the idea that a character shift could be coming, current indications suggest WWE has no interest in moving away from Rhodes’ babyface role anytime soon.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE management is firmly against turning Rhodes heel at this stage. The reasoning is not rooted in creative hesitation, but in cold, hard business metrics. Meltzer reported that Rhodes’ merchandise sales remain exceptionally strong, making any major character change an unnecessary risk.
“Regarding any rumors of a Rhodes heel turn, we were told it’s not happening now, won’t until it’s deemed it has to and the feeling is that’s no time soon and we were told his merchandise numbers are nothing to be tinkered with,” Meltzer wrote.
Since his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, Rhodes has steadily positioned himself as the company’s top babyface. His connection with fans, particularly younger audiences, has been a major factor in his sustained push. Internally, his current role has reportedly drawn comparisons to John Cena during his peak run, when calls for a heel turn were frequent but ultimately ignored due to the financial upside of keeping Cena as the heroic face of the brand.
Rhodes’ appeal goes beyond television. He continues to be a major driver for live event attendance and one of WWE’s most consistent merchandise sellers. From t-shirts to replica titles, his branding has proven reliable across multiple markets, reinforcing the company’s confidence in his presentation.
With WrestleMania season approaching, WWE appears content to keep Rhodes positioned as the centerpiece of its babyface lineup. Creative directions in wrestling can always change, but at present, there is no internal pressure to fix what is not broken. For now, “The American Nightmare” remains firmly aligned with the side of good, and all signs suggest that status quo will hold well into the future.
Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu are set to collide at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24.
