AEW to Plans to Use "Broken Universe", Backstage Frustration at Lack of Live Events

– According to PWInsider, AEW plans to begin using much of the “Broken Universe” gimmick for Matt Hardy in the coming weeks.

This likely played a significant role in him signing with AEW as the belief was that WWE was not really interested in using the Broken Universe characters as much as Matt wanted them to, which left the two sides at a creative impasse. Hardy returns to action next week teaming up with Kenny Omega to take on Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara. Also scheduled for next week’s Dynamite is Cody vs. Joey Janela.

– Several people backstage were naturally frustrated at the restrictions that came as a result of COVID-19 that caused the company to postpone and move several live events. Specifically, the postponed event in Newark, NJ was one that was being looked forward to as it was expected to generate the largest audience and gate in company history.
