WWE Creative Reportedly Discussing Revival of Iconic Sin Cara Character

Following a major surge in interest surrounding Mexican talent and traditional lucha libre, early creative pitches have begun circulating within WWE regarding a potential revival of the iconic Sin Cara character.

A Fresh Performer Under the Mask

According to a report from PWInsider, internal discussions have explored bringing the masked persona back to television. However, if the promotion decides to move forward with the concept, the mask would be passed to an entirely new performer rather than bringing back either of the previous wrestlers who portrayed the role.

The Sin Cara character originally debuted with massive fanfare in April 2011, portrayed by international luchador star Mistico. Following his departure in October 2013, the mantle was assumed by Cinta de Oro (formerly Hunico), who carried the gimmick until his exit from the company in late 2019.

Past Performers Thrive Outside Stamford

Both former Sin Cara performers have continued to build prominent legacies outside of WWE. Mistico remains one of the biggest international draws in professional wrestling today, regularly featuring for top promotions including CMLL, NJPW, and AEW. Meanwhile, Cinta de Oro remains active in the ring, competing across the independent circuit while promoting live events throughout Mexico.

For now, discussions surrounding the return of Sin Cara remain in the preliminary creative stages. WWE has not locked in any concrete plans or officially chosen a candidate to wear the mask, but the renewed focus on lucha libre makes the character a intriguing option for the future.
