U.S. State Department Orders Departure Of Non-Emergency Staff From Saudi Arabia Ahead Of WWE Crown Jewel

Here is an update about security concerns surrounding WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia ahead of the November 7 show in Riyadh.

The U.S. Department of State issued an ordered departure on October 21 for non-emergency diplomatic personnel and their families living in the country, raising further questions about the event’s security arrangements.

The departure order was prompted by heightened security threats and escalating attacks launched by Iran-aligned Houthi forces operating out of Yemen. Initial international reporting contained conflicting accounts regarding the scope of the evacuation, with AFP citing a diplomatic source claiming that all American embassy personnel across Saudi Arabia—and families of diplomats in several other Gulf nations—had been ordered to evacuate:

All American staff and their families have been ordered to depart from the US embassy in Saudi Arabia.

However, Reuters and U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott clarified that the ordered departure specifically applies to non-emergency U.S. government employees and family members in Saudi Arabia:

The US Department of State issued an ordered departure for non-emergency US government employees and their family members in Saudi Arabia only.

The logistical complications extend beyond diplomatic advisories. Security concerns escalated further on October 21 when Saudi air defenses intercepted a drone targeting a facility at the Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province. Falling debris from the interception resulted in two fatalities and injured two additional foreign workers, though Saudi officials confirmed that facility operations remained uncompromised.

Travel infrastructure in the region also faces continued volatility. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has resumed limited commercial flight operations following previous strikes, but severe international travel disruptions persist. The escalation follows a broader State Department warning issued two days prior, which advised Americans across the Middle East to prepare for flight cancellations, potential airspace closures, and heightened travel hazards.

Despite the swift diplomatic evacuations and regional travel strain, WWE has not announced any changes, relocations, or cancellations for Crown Jewel. The event remains officially on the broadcast schedule for November 7 at Riyadh Season Stadium. With slightly over two weeks remaining until the show, internal questions regarding the safe transit and production logistics for WWE personnel continue to mount.
