WWE has officially put an end to rumors regarding the placement of the World Heavyweight Championship match at Money in the Bank 2026.
During the October 9 go-home broadcast of SmackDown, commentator Michael Cole announced that Roman Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight in the opening match of the show.
The announcement directly shuts down recent reports suggesting that Reigns and Knight were set to main event the event in New Orleans. Early speculation had envisioned a scenario where the winner of the Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match could capitalize on a battered main-event winner and cash in the briefcase before the night concluded. With the World Heavyweight Title match taking place as the show opener, an immediate same-night cash-in during the Reigns vs. Knight encounter is officially off the table.
WWE Money in the Bank 2026 streams live this Saturday, October 10, from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, starting at 6:00 p.m. ET on the ESPN app in the United States and Netflix internationally.
