There has been a new legal development in the ongoing misdemeanor battery case involving WWE Superstar Ludwig Kaiser (real name Marcel Barthel).
According to court records from Orange County, Florida, a “notice of appearance” was officially filed on October 8, entering attorney Bruce A. Mount Jr. as legal counsel for the alleged victim in the case, Richard Reap. Mount, an attorney with NeJame Law in Orlando, specializing in personal injury and civil litigation, entering the proceedings indicates that potential civil action could follow the criminal case.
The criminal charge stems from an incident in late April inside an elevator at an Orlando apartment complex, which ultimately led to Barthel’s arrest on a battery charge in May. Barthel turned himself in and was subsequently released on a $1,000 bond.
A key hearing remains scheduled for October 19 regarding a motion to dismiss filed by Barthel’s defense team. In the motion, Barthel argues that he is immune from prosecution under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, asserting that the interaction escalated after Reap made hostile verbal statements toward Barthel and his girlfriend before aggressively approaching them.
Earlier in the proceedings, on June 16, the defense filed an unopposed motion seeking access to surveillance footage of the elevator incident. Judge Andrew Cameron of Orange County granted the request on June 25, issuing a court-authorized subpoena to obtain the security video.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Kaiser—who currently performs on WWE television under the mask as El Grande Americano—has continued to feature regularly on Monday Night RAW and international WWE events.
