Robert Stone Defends NXT Identity, Rejects Developmental Label

NXT General Manager Robert Stone is pushing back against fans and critics who continue to categorize WWE’s third brand as merely a stepping stone for future main roster talent. Speaking during a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Stone offered a strong defense regarding the NXT WWE developmental brand status, insisting that the weekly show has evolved into a distinct product capable of outperforming RAW and SmackDown.

“It Is Its Own Brand”: Stone Highlight’s Product Evolution

While acknowledging that cultivating new talent remains a foundational goal for the roster, Stone argued that the overall match quality and presentation have far outgrown traditional developmental expectations.

Addressing NXT’s standing in the modern wrestling landscape, Stone emphasized its unique identity:

“It is its own brand with its own unique style, different from RAW, SmackDown and every other brand in WWE. [It’s different than] everything else in wrestling. But yes, it does develop talent, and that’s the point of it.”

In-Ring Standards Stand Up To Main Roster Competition

To reinforce his point, the General Manager highlighted the recent high-stakes opener between Jaida Parker and Kelani Jordan as proof that NXT performers operate at the highest level of the industry.

Praising the work rate of both competitors, Stone stated:

“And kicking off the show last night with a match like that, Jaida [Parker] and Kelani [Jordan], I’ll put that match up against any match right now on RAW or SmackDown. It’s just as good or even better, proving that it’s really not a developmental show.”
