The professional wrestling community continues to mourn the tragic passing of Andy “The Butcher” Williams, who unexpectedly passed away on Saturday night following a match at Enjoy Wrestling.
While the September 9 broadcast of AEW Dynamite was dedicated as a benefit show for Rebel and ALS research, AEW opened the episode with a black-and-white tribute graphic honoring Williams. Throughout the broadcast, multiple wrestlers wore “AW” armbands, incorporated his signature moves into their matches, and commentator Excalibur delivered an emotional, tearful tribute on commentary.
AEW Collision Dedicated To “The Butcher”
During Excalibur’s tribute on Dynamite, AEW confirmed that the upcoming September 12 episode of AEW Collision will be officially dedicated to the memory and legacy of Williams.
AEW issued a statement on social media confirming the tribute broadcast:
- “AEW will remember and celebrate the life of one of the best people we’ve ever been blessed to know, ‘The Butcher’ Andy Williams, on Collision this Saturday.”
In a rare move, no matches were announced for Collision during the Dynamite broadcast, with the promotion keeping focus squarely on honoring Williams’ impact across both professional wrestling and heavy metal music with his band Every Time I Die.
Tributes & Medical Details
Tributes have poured in across multiple promotions following the tragedy:
- Ring of Honor Tapings: ROH opened its Tuesday taping session with a solemn 10-bell salute in honor of Williams.
- Public Celebration of Life: A public service celebrating his life and career has been scheduled for September 27.
Enjoy Wrestling co-founder Kurt Hackimer released a statement explaining that Williams collapsed at ringside after his match and struck his head on the floor, exhibiting symptoms consistent with a major cardiac event.
Millvale Police Chief Tom Komoroski added that Williams stopped breathing shortly before EMS arrived on the scene, where first responders initiated CPR and applied an automated external defibrillator (AED). Official autopsy results remain pending.
