17-time World Champion John Cena has reaffirmed that his in-ring career is officially over, ruling out any possibility of stepping back into the squared circle for WWE, AEW, or any other promotion.
Speaking at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto over the weekend, Cena addressed crowd chants calling for “one more match” by clarifying why he will not reverse his retirement decision.
Cena Explains Honor To Fans Who Attended Farewell Tour
Responding to the fan chants during his panel, Cena joked that neither WWE President Nick Khan nor AEW President Tony Khan could offer enough incentive to alter his plans.
“No Khan has got the pocketbook — Nick, Tony, they ain’t got the money. I’m out,” Cena joked. “I’m going to take your chant and I can say that because lot of you folks spent a whole lot of resources on my farewell tour.”
Cena explained that returning to the ring would undermine the trust of fans who invested money and travel to experience the final matches of his career throughout 2025.
“If I decide to selfishly come back for ego-driven reasons, basically that’s saying I’m lying to every one of y’all. You might not mind, but there are people who paid a fortune to sit at that last match. And for me to be like, ‘Just kidding.’ I met so many families that put so much effort into saving just to see those moments.”
Cena added that he is content with his physical health and closure following his final bout against GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025:
“For me, I’m out of it with my health. I feel good. I got good clarity and good closure. As far as ever falling down again, that’s out.”
Ambassador Role And Strict “No-Fall-Downs” Policy
While retired from active competition, Cena remains under a WWE ambassador contract. After hosting both nights of WrestleMania 42 earlier this year and appearing at Backlash, Cena has adopted a strict “no-fall-downs” policy for TV appearances, opting to wear formal suits instead of wrestling gear to avoid taking physical bumps.
Additionally, Cena revealed that internal development has progressed regarding the upcoming John Cena Classic, with official details set to be announced by WWE in the future.
