AEW National Champion Andrade El Idolo is stepping away from the ring for a brief period after revealing he hasn’t felt well since competing at AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
The 36‑year‑old delivered the update shortly after returning from Canada, where he worked two dates for Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling despite dealing with symptoms that began days earlier.
El Idolo competed in a major three‑way match at Grand Slam Mexico, defeating Tommaso Ciampa and Komander to secure the No. 1 spot in the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW All In London. He then traveled to Canada for MLP shows before finally confirming he needed time off.
In a social media post, Andrade said he flew back to Miami and immediately sought medical attention in the Dominican Republic. He noted that he had been pushing through discomfort since the Wednesday after Grand Slam Mexico but now requires a short hiatus.
“I hadn’t been feeling well since the Wednesday after the Grand Slam, but as a professional, I had two shows in Canada with MLP. I’ll keep you posted, but I have to be out of action for a few days or weeks. It’s nothing serious. Take care! But… I have one question?”
Andrade did not disclose the nature of the issue, leaving fans waiting for further updates. His announcement prompted a quick response from MJF, who chimed in with a trademark jab.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA How you know? OH I KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED!”
The comment continues the ongoing tension between the two following Andrade’s rise in AEW’s National Championship scene.
Andrade’s Title Run and Recent Momentum
El Idolo captured the AEW National Championship at AEW Redemption 2026, defeating Mark Davis. Since then, he has defended the title once and built momentum heading into All In London, where he is already guaranteed a spot in the Casino Gauntlet match.
His temporary absence comes at a busy time for AEW’s summer schedule, but Andrade emphasized that the issue is not serious and expects to return soon.
