The first matches for 7/18 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event have been confirmed, with several ongoing storylines now leading directly into the July 18 show at Madison Square Garden.
During a backstage segment on 7/3 episode of SmackDown, Danhausen informed Matt Cardona that he is scheduled to face JD McDonagh at the event. The match comes after weeks of tension between Danhausen and The Judgment Day, stemming from an incident where he took their money. The rivalry has continued to escalate in recent weeks, leading to this singles bout being made official.
Cardona told Danhausen on Friday that he would be ready to support him if needed. However, Danhausen responded by saying he already has backup lined up. He teased that the person he plans to contact is based in New York, leaving uncertainty about who could be involved at Madison Square Garden.
Another match announced for the show will see Paige and Brie Bella defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Fatal Influence. The challengers gained momentum on SmackDown when Lainey Reid secured a win over Brie Bella, helping to set up the title match for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Danhausen has also been gaining attention in the New York area due to a recent storyline connection involving the New York Knicks. He was credited with “uncursing” the team just before the NBA playoffs. The Knicks went on a strong run, eventually defeating the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 to win their first NBA championship since 1973. WWE is expected to incorporate that angle into promotional material for the upcoming event.
The issues between Danhausen and The Judgment Day extend beyond their financial dispute. The group became frustrated with him after he refused to assist in placing a curse on Oba Femi, which coincided with Dominik Mysterio losing in the King of the Ring semifinals. Danhausen also placed a curse on Liv Morgan prior to her Queen of the Ring finals match, where she was defeated by IYO SKY.
With multiple storylines now intersecting, SNME is beginning to take shape as WWE builds toward its return to Madison Square Garden.
