Will Ospreay captured the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, defeating Swerve Strickland in a hard-fought main event.
Will Ospreay Wins Owen Hart Cup at Forbidden Door After Defeating Swerve Strickland
The match began at a fast pace, with Ospreay attempting an early Hidden Blade that Strickland avoided. Swerve quickly shifted focus to Ospreay’s surgically repaired neck, targeting it with strikes and counters. He blocked a Styles Clash and delivered a Samoan Drop before sending Ospreay to the outside and exposing the bottom turnbuckle.
Ospreay responded with a double stomp from the barricade onto Swerve’s back, followed by a Death Ground attempt on the floor. Although Swerve tapped, it did not count outside the ring. Prince Nana then interfered, throwing coffee at Ospreay, allowing Swerve to regain control and drive Ospreay into the exposed turnbuckle.
Both competitors traded momentum through a series of counters. Ospreay reversed Swerve into a hurricanrana and looked for the OsCutter, but Swerve countered into a Deadeye. The action intensified on the apron and around ringside, where Ospreay sent Swerve into the steel steps, leaving him visibly bleeding.
The match continued with heavy outside involvement. As Ospreay set up Swerve near the commentary table, Nana again interfered, creating an opening for Swerve to land the House Call. Moments later, Ospreay responded with a Styles Clash onto the desk before bringing the fight back into the ring.
Inside the ring, both men exchanged near-falls and high-impact moves. Swerve landed a House Call and a Vertebreaker, while Ospreay answered with repeated Hidden Blades. The back-and-forth escalated as each competitor continued targeting the other with signature offense.
Late in the match, The Death Riders appeared at ringside, adding another layer to the closing moments. Despite Swerve landing another House Call, Ospreay rallied with a sequence that included a Hidden Blade, a Buckshot Hidden Blade, a Paradigm Shift, a Death Rider, and finally a Tiger Driver to secure the victory.
The win crowns Will Ospreay as the Men’s Owen Hart Cup tournament winner, ending a physically demanding match that capped off a long day for wrestling fans. The bout came after a packed schedule that also included TNA Slammiversary and NXT Great American Bash, making it one of the most event-filled days across multiple promotions.
