Tony Khan addressed WWE’s decision to schedule multiple events on the same day as AEW All In during the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door media scrum.
Tony Khan comments on WWE scheduling against AEW All In
Khan confirmed he was aware that WWE plans to run both an AAA event and NXT Heatwave on August 30, the same day as AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. When the situation was brought up by Dave Meltzer, Khan agreed with the idea that the move could be viewed as a compliment.
“It’s good. It’s double the compliment Jimmy Crockett got. That’s good, twice as nice as they were to Jimmy. That’s great. I’ll be sure to take it that way. I think we’re going to have a great AEW All In and really looking forward to going back to Wembley Stadium. It’s going to be the biggest night in AEW wrestling,” Khan said.
He continued by noting that his focus remains on AEW’s own product.
“I can’t speak to what the other promotions are doing but I did see that announcement. I saw that with our own show going on tonight, so not a lot I can do other than just hope we have a really good show and plan and prepare that we will have a very good show for AEW All In.”
The media scrum also featured comments from key AEW talent, including Mercedes Moné, Will Ospreay, and Thekla.
Moné reflected on her Owen Hart Foundation tournament win and made it clear she is targeting the AEW Women’s World Championship. She also spoke about her connection to London and her confidence heading into a potential match with Thekla, calling herself the greatest women’s wrestler of all time.
Thekla responded to Moné’s victory with a short statement: “Good for her.” She added, “I’m going to retain, I don’t care.” The champion also hinted at future plans involving the Triangle of Madness and referenced her ongoing path following her recent win over Starlight Kid.
Khan addressed several additional topics during the session. He said pre-buys for Forbidden Door performed well but did not provide final pay-per-view numbers. He also commented on Yota Tsuji, noting respect for both the wrestler and the IWGP Championship despite Tsuji’s absence from the event.
On future plans, Khan said more fan-focused events are being considered and mentioned interest in potential cross-promotional tournaments with NJPW, though logistics remain a challenge. He also confirmed that Jay White has been cleared to compete, emphasizing the importance of the Bang Bang Gang.
Other notes included Khan praising the roster’s health coming out of the show, teasing plans for WrestleMania weekend, and stating that AEW has continued to improve year over year.
Ospreay also spoke about his Owen Hart Cup victory, reflecting on his journey back from injury and expressing his goal of winning the AEW World Championship at Wembley Stadium.
