The federal lawsuit involving Janel Grant, Vince McMahon, and WWE has officially been closed, marking a significant shift in the legal process. A federal judge ordered the case shut on July 27, 2026, ending all proceedings in court and moving the dispute into private arbitration.
Judge Sarah F. Russell issued the ruling shortly after all parties submitted a joint stipulation to dismiss the case with prejudice. As part of the order, the court also terminated all pending motions, confirming that there were no remaining matters to address at the federal level.
Janel Grant Lawsuit Arbitration Move
According to the official filing, the judge directed the clerk to close the case and dismiss all outstanding motions as moot.
“The parties have filed a stipulation of dismissal pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(A)(ii). Accordingly, the Clerk is respectfully directed to terminate all pending motions as moot and to close the case.”
A separate order confirmed that motions to compel and requests to submit additional material would no longer be considered. With the case dismissed, there is no longer an active federal proceeding for the court to oversee.
Importantly, the dismissal does not resolve the underlying allegations or claims. The agreement allows both sides to continue pursuing their positions through arbitration, preserving their legal rights outside of the public court system.
“Plaintiff, Defendant World Wrestling Entertainment, LLC, and Defendant Vincent K. McMahon stipulate and agree that this action and all claims pled herein are hereby dismissed with prejudice, but without prejudice as to the Parties’ rights to pursue their claims and defenses in arbitration in accordance with their agreement to arbitrate.”
Janel Grant initially filed the lawsuit in January 2024, accusing Vince McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking, while also alleging that WWE enabled or concealed the conduct. McMahon denied the allegations, and WWE also disputed the claims. John Laurinaitis was originally named in the lawsuit but was later removed as a defendant.
Grant’s legal team had previously opposed arbitration, arguing that a 2022 nondisclosure agreement should not be enforced. Despite that position, all parties have now agreed to shift the dispute away from federal court.
With the case officially closed, any future proceedings, filings, or testimony are expected to take place in private arbitration, limiting public access to further developments.
