CM Punk is officially set as the top champion on WWE SmackDown, with new details confirming his status on the blue brand following his latest title victory.
WWE has updated its event listings to include Punk among the advertised talent for all upcoming episodes of SmackDown. That begins with this Friday’s show in Oklahoma City, where Punk is already confirmed to appear. He is currently featured alongside Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Trick Williams, and Gunther as part of WWE’s promotional lineup for the brand.
Punk is also scheduled for WWE live events this weekend, with appearances advertised for house shows in Las Cruces and Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 11 and July 12. His inclusion across both television and live event advertising signals that WWE is positioning him as a central figure on SmackDown moving forward.
CM Punk SmackDown Move
The development follows Punk’s return to WWE programming on RAW earlier this week, where he defeated Sami Zayn to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. The title change marked a major shift, especially given that Zayn had only recently won the championship.
Reports had previously indicated that Punk was expected to transition to SmackDown upon his return, as WWE looks to balance star power between its two main brands. His move now appears to be fully in motion, with the company promoting him heavily across upcoming shows.
Punk’s championship win came under notable circumstances. WWE had originally advertised a title match between Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes for that episode of RAW. However, the situation changed after Rhodes was taken out in a backstage attack by Gunther. This opened the door for Punk to step in, leading to his victory over Zayn in what was framed as a major hometown moment in the Chicago area.
Zayn’s reign ultimately lasted just nine days after he captured the title at WWE Night of Champions, where he defeated both Rhodes and Gunther.
Looking ahead, Punk is also advertised for WWE SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis at the start of August. He is expected to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, setting up one of the biggest matches currently planned for the event.
With Punk now firmly positioned on SmackDown and holding the company’s top title, WWE appears to be building the brand around him as it heads into SummerSlam. His presence across upcoming shows and events highlights the company’s direction as it reshapes its main event scene.
