Rumored Issues Between CM Punk And WWE

Recent reports have pointed to possible minor issues between WWE and CM Punk, with new details suggesting the situation has been developing since WrestleMania.

CM Punk has not appeared on WWE programming since the RAW episode following WrestleMania, despite a video surfacing in late May showing him training with a noticeably bulked-up physique. His absence has led to increased speculation about his current standing within the company.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been minor issues involving Punk that can be traced back to his loss of the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Fightful Select also noted that it has heard ongoing rumors and internal talk regarding Punk dating back to that period. However, the outlet stated it has not been able to confirm specific details, adding that little has changed since its previous report.

CM Punk SummerSlam Plans Complicated After Title Change

Original creative plans reportedly had Punk set for a major match at SummerSlam. Meltzer stated that the direction was clear before recent developments.

“The plan was Cody Rhodes defending the title against CM Punk. That absolutely was the plan.”

Those plans were disrupted when Sami Zayn captured the championship at Night of Champions, forcing WWE to adjust its creative direction heading into SummerSlam.

There have also been discussions about Punk potentially returning on the July 6 episode of RAW, which will take place in Chicago. The location has added significance due to Punk’s strong connection to the city. Despite that, he is not currently advertised for the show on WWE’s official website. However, he was mentioned in a promotional tweet from the AllState Arena, adding another layer of uncertainty.

In addition, Punk has been rumored as a possible candidate to move to SmackDown, where a program with Cody Rhodes could still take shape ahead of SummerSlam. That scenario remains unclear given the recent title change and ongoing reports of backstage developments.

At this stage, Punk’s WWE status appears fluid. While there are indications of creative plans and potential returns, confirmed details remain limited as the company continues building toward SummerSlam.
