Kyle Fletcher Says He Avoided Surgery

Kyle Fletcher has revealed that he was able to avoid surgery after suffering a serious leg injury earlier this year, allowing him to return to AEW action at Double or Nothing and immediately impact the Don Callis Family storyline.

Fletcher suffered the injury on the March 28 episode of Collision, where he tore his meniscus and also sustained a fracture in his ankle and the top of his tibia. Early medical assessments suggested a difficult recovery process, with doctors estimating a 90 percent chance that surgery would be required for the meniscus damage.

However, Fletcher confirmed in a new vlog that he ultimately did not need an operation.

He said, “I don’t have to have surgery. Awesome news. I was given initially 90 percent chance of surgery. No surgery required. Just healing.”

Instead of surgery, Fletcher followed a structured recovery plan focused on natural healing for the fractures, combined with rest and physical therapy. After a short recovery break, he began rehab work and maintained his conditioning at home while working through cardio and nutrition programs to stay ready for an eventual return.

By mid-May, Fletcher had been cleared to resume in-ring training. From there, AEW’s medical team approved his progression back toward competition, setting the stage for his comeback at Double or Nothing.

At AEW Double or Nothing 2026, Fletcher made his return during the post-match fallout involving Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita. Fletcher aligned briefly with the situation before turning on Takeshita, targeting the new AEW International Champion and shifting the direction of the Don Callis Family storyline.

Fletcher reflected on his return following the event, saying, “We’re back on the job. All of a sudden, it’s just — I’m back to being on the road, back to my old life. It’s very exciting. It feels like a chapter has closed today, and now I get to look forward. Bright horizons, happy days ahead. I get to go back to living my dream, loving life, traveling the world, and dropping people on their f**ing heads, which I love to do.”*

His return adds a major new layer to AEW’s international title picture and continues the ongoing internal tension within the Don Callis Family, especially following Konosuke Takeshita’s championship win and Kazuchika Okada’s involvement in the same storyline.
