Rey Mysterio Named AAA General Manager

Rey Mysterio has officially been named the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, marking a major development for the promotion as part of its ongoing evolution under the WWE partnership.

The announcement took place during the May 23 live episode of AAA on Fox. Marisela Pena opened the show and introduced the segment, with several AAA legends and current stars gathered in and around the ring. Dorian Roldan, Pena’s son, was also present and appeared to be positioning himself as a candidate for the role.

In a surprise reveal, Pena announced WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio as the new General Manager. The decision immediately explained why Mysterio had been absent from the English commentary team earlier in the broadcast, which had been subtly noted at the start of the show.

The reaction inside the arena was largely positive, with talent and legends celebrating the announcement. However, Dominik Mysterio, who currently holds the AAA Mega Championship, was visibly unhappy with the decision, as was Roldan.

With Mysterio stepping into his new authority role, the commentary team also saw a change for the night. Savio Vega joined Corey Graves and John Layfield on commentary. Vega’s involvement continues his growing role within WWE’s presentation of AAA programming. He previously revealed in June 2025 that he had been working behind the scenes as a producer tied to the partnership.

Mysterio will now work alongside The Undertaker as part of the AAA on Fox creative structure, further strengthening WWE’s influence on the brand. His appointment signals a significant shift in on-screen leadership for AAA moving forward.
