Seth Rollins vs Gunther WrestleMania 42 Match Finalized Late Amid Creative Debate

The WrestleMania 42 showdown between Seth Rollins and Gunther reportedly came together at the last minute and was not a unanimous decision within WWE’s creative team.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the match was only finalized during the week leading into the March 30 episode of WWE RAW. The timing reflects how quickly plans shifted following Rollins’ return from a shoulder injury that had kept him out of action since the fall of 2025.

Shortly after returning, Rollins was attacked by Gunther on RAW, which became the on-screen angle used to set up their WrestleMania clash. However, behind the scenes, there was reportedly significant discussion about whether this was the right direction.

Some members of WWE’s creative team were said to favor continuing Rollins’ “Vision” storyline rather than moving him into a program with Gunther. Others supported the change, largely due to a desire to ensure Gunther had a prominent spot on the WrestleMania 42 card.

Gunther had originally been expected to face Bron Breakker, but that plan fell through. Despite being medically cleared, Breakker was reportedly held off television programs involving Rollins in order to allow for a more complete build in the future.

The report also addressed speculation surrounding Paul Heyman, noting that he is not expected to be in Gunther’s corner for the match. This leaves their teased on-screen association somewhat unclear heading into WrestleMania.

With WrestleMania 42 approaching, the late decision and differing opinions within the creative team add another layer of intrigue to the Rollins vs. Gunther bout, as both men head into one of the biggest matches on the card under unique circumstances.
