New information has surfaced following the reported arrest of Alberto Del Rio earlier this week in San Luis Potosí. The former WWE Champion was taken into custody on Monday, April 6, 2026, in connection with allegations of domestic violence involving his wife. Authorities continue to investigate the case, and Del Rio has not been convicted of any crime. He is presumed innocent under the law.
According to reports from Milenio, prosecutors may pursue one of two possible charges under the San Luis Potosí Criminal Code. The first is “violencia familiar,” which carries a prison sentence ranging from one to seven years. This charge also includes a financial penalty between 20 and 700 UMA days. Based on the 2026 UMA rate of 117.31 pesos per day, the fine could fall between approximately 2,346 and 82,117 pesos.
A more severe charge remains under consideration. Known as “Lesiones Cometidas contra la Mujer en Razón de su Género,” this offense carries a potential sentence of eight to 20 years in prison. Fines for this charge range from 400 to 700 UMA days, which equates to roughly 46,924 to 82,117 pesos. Reports indicate this charge may apply in cases involving serious or degrading injuries, or when prior threats, harassment, or violence are alleged.
Infobae Mexico has identified the alleged victim as Del Rio’s wife, Mary Carmen Rodriguez Lucero. She is reportedly receiving both medical attention and legal protection. The outlet also stated that about a month before the April 6 incident, Rodriguez Lucero allegedly contacted journalist Flor Rubio via WhatsApp, referencing a situation involving her husband before withdrawing the message and asking not to escalate the matter.
Details surrounding the arrest indicate that local authorities responded to a 911 call at a residence in the Lomas del Tec area. Officers from the State Civil Guard reportedly found the alleged victim with visible injuries to her face and arms. Del Rio was detained at the scene and later transferred to the state prosecutor’s office for further investigation.
This is not the first time Del Rio has been linked to domestic-related incidents. In 2017, he was involved in a public altercation with Saraya-Jade Bevis at Orlando International Airport. That situation was classified as a domestic disturbance, and no charges were filed. A separate report from 2018 indicated that Bevis filed a complaint with U.S. authorities, though the case did not proceed in court.
In 2020, Del Rio was arrested in San Antonio following allegations made by an ex-partner. He faced serious charges, including aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. The case was dismissed in December 2021 after the primary accuser did not appear in court, preventing prosecutors from continuing. At the time, Del Rio denied all accusations and stated that the claims were false.
The current case in San Luis Potosí remains active. Authorities have not announced final charges, and the investigation is ongoing as officials determine how to proceed.
