Samoa Joe has addressed his current status with AEW and offered a positive update about when fans may see his return to the ring. The former AEW World Champion has been away from television since late January after suffering an injury that forced him out of action.
During the January 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that Joe had suffered a non-contact injury and had not been medically cleared to compete. His last match took place on the January 21 episode of Dynamite, where he defeated Mike Bailey in singles competition.
While appearing at a Monopoly Events convention, Joe briefly spoke about his recovery and shared an encouraging message regarding his eventual return to AEW programming.
“We’ll be back at AEW sooner than later,” Joe said during his appearance.
Although Joe did not reveal a specific date for his return, previous reporting from Fightful Select indicated that he was placed in concussion protocol following the incident in January. AEW has taken a careful approach with the situation, as the company continues to prioritize wrestler safety, especially when it comes to possible head injuries.
While Joe has been off television, changes have taken place within his faction, The Opps. In his absence, HOOK has stepped into a leadership role and has begun strengthening the group.
Even though Joe has not appeared on television during this period, his presence still plays a major role in the identity of the faction.
Looking ahead, AEW is preparing for the AEW Revolution pay-per-view scheduled for March 15 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Because Joe stated he hopes to return “sooner than later,” some fans have speculated that he could potentially appear at the event if he receives medical clearance in time.
Revolution is expected to feature several major matches. One of the top bouts scheduled is a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship between MJF and “Hangman” Adam Page. The card is also set to include a tag team championship match where FTR will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks.
For now, Joe remains focused on completing the final steps of his recovery before returning to action.
