Backstage News on Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill’s Heated Social Media Exchange

Tension between Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill escalated almost immediately after Ripley won the Women’s Elimination Chamber and secured her WWE Women’s Championship match against Cargill.

Their back‑and‑forth on social media quickly drew attention, with many fans questioning whether the hostility was genuine. When Chelsea Green and Piper Niven publicly sided with Ripley, speculation intensified that the situation might be more personal than promotional.

On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified that the exchanges were part of WWE’s strategy to build interest for the upcoming WrestleMania match. However, he noted that the angle is rooted in real opinions held by some within the company. Meltzer explained that while the tweets were coordinated, they reflected legitimate backstage sentiments toward Cargill.

“I’m not saying that people who tweeted have said that to me,” Meltzer stated. “I will only say that those words have been said to me by… there is a prevailing viewpoint there, among people and talent, that is identical to some of the things that were tweeted. So we’re ribbing on the square.”

He added that the situation mirrors classic wrestling tactics, where performers work an angle using real underlying tension. Meltzer emphasized that if the animosity were truly personal, talent like Chelsea Green and Piper Niven would not be permitted to publicly criticize a colleague.

The tone reportedly shifted when Cargill referenced Ripley spending extended time with WWE creative. According to Fightful Select, that specific line caused internal concern. One creative source commented, “We would never include a mention of creative as a part of that, it undermines the point.” While the remark raised eyebrows, WWE was said to be pleased with the overall engagement the exchange generated.

Despite the intensity of the online feud, there is no internal worry about Ripley and Cargill working together at WrestleMania. Sources indicated confidence that both will remain professional and deliver as expected.

Even if the tone of the storyline evolved mid‑conversation, WWE appears satisfied with the attention and speculation it created heading into one of the company’s biggest matches of the year.
