Backstage News on El Hijo del Vikingo's Contract

Backstage News on El Hijo del Vikingo’s Contract – A new report has provided clarification on El Hijo del Vikingo’s contract status following WWE’s acquisition of AAA. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Vikingo is signed directly to WWE, setting him apart from the majority of the AAA roster under the new ownership structure.

WWE’s purchase of AAA was first announced during WrestleMania 41 weekend in April 2025. Under the terms of the deal, WWE, operating as a subsidiary of TKO Group Holdings, acquired a 51 percent controlling stake in the Mexican promotion. The remaining 49 percent ownership stake is held by Fillip, a Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company.

Johnson reported that most AAA talent are not signed directly to WWE. Instead, the bulk of the roster is contracted to Fillip, which co-owns the holding company that controls AAA alongside TKO. Vikingo, however, is a notable exception. He is reportedly under a direct WWE contract, a move that reflects how highly the company views him following the acquisition.

This arrangement aligns with earlier reports from May 2025 that identified Vikingo as a priority signing for WWE as part of the AAA deal. His direct contract status has already been reflected in his booking across WWE-related programming. Since the acquisition was announced, Vikingo has appeared on WWE events, including Worlds Collide on June 7, 2025, where he defended the AAA Mega Championship against Chad Gable.

Vikingo’s momentum has continued into 2026. On the January 17, 2026 episode of AAA TV, he became the number one contender for the AAA Mega Championship once again. That development positions him for another major title match and highlights his ongoing prominence as AAA programming moves forward under the new ownership model.

The acquisition itself is expected to formally close in the third quarter of 2025. As part of the agreement, the Peña-Roldán family will remain involved in AAA’s business operations. This structure is intended to preserve the promotion’s identity while integrating WWE’s global reach and resources.
